Mystery Tulsi?
Namaste!
So, a few months ago I purchased a very tiny, near death, Tulsi plant from my local Temple. Luckily it survived and seems to be doing well. I just don't have any idea what kind it is. The Tulsi is donated to the temple so it's not labeled.
I've looked for image references online and I've narrowed it down to two possibilities : Ram Tulsi or Kapoor Tulsi. I know it's not Krishna Tulsi because the leaves are green. While it is difficult to tell in the photos, the stem is adopting a purplish tint.
Where are my Botanists? :)
Thanks for the help!

Re: Mystery Tulsi?
Egads! No one? Perhaps it shall remain a mystery. Or perhaps it is too young to tell?:dunno:

Vannakkam: I'm sure you've seen this already. http://www.uni-graz.at/~katzer/engl/Ocim_bas.html It looks mostly like the Thai one to me, but I'm half blind with old age.

Re: Mystery Tulsi?
Thank you for the link, EM! I might have to wait for it to mature a bit to tell. From that diagram is could be a few of them. I hadn't seen this page before. I thought there were only 4 kinds of Tulsi. I'll bookmark this page and look again in a few weeks:)
Peace!

Re: Mystery Tulsi?
Namaste.
I too have a tiny Tulsi seedling, maybe 2" tall, that I got from the temple. There were a few that looked different. It is developing a woody purple stem and purple in the leaves, which are still predominately green, and teardrop shaped. This is what mine is beginning to look like:

If this is what it will grow to be, it's Sacred Thai Basil. But consider that because all of them are in the genus Ocimum, they can be cross-bred and hybridized, leading to the confusion and to different morphologies (appearance), even within the same species.
