sindhoor and haldi?
Namaskar everyone, I have a question regarding sindhoor and haldi. I have read articles online about Sri Shivling puja, and they say that we should not use haldi or sindhoor as tilak on a Sri Shivling. I have seen Sri Shivling(s) with sindhoor on them, and haldi, but what may be the reasoning for people to tell us it is a paap to use them as tilak for the Sri Shivling? & take a look at this typical Sri Shivling image, sindhoor can be seen, and the yellow tilak can be interprated as haldi or maybe chandan (?). Thank you.

Re: sindhoor and haldi?
I've also seen haldi abhisheks happening at jyotirlinga temples. Such as Sri Mahakaleshvara:

Re: sindhoor and haldi?
I've just read the Sri LingAshtakam, which is dedicated to the benevolent Sri Shiva, and it mentions in a line saying we offer sindhoor to Sri Shiva.
Sri LingAshtakam:

So, now I don't know who to believe since jyotirlinga temples offer turmeric abhishekam to the Sri Jyotirlinga, and this Sri Lingashtakam states that we offer sindhoor (kumkum)! Someone please clear my doubts. I do not want to insult Sri Shiva by offering something that they do not approve of.

Re: sindhoor and haldi?
Dear Chakreshvari,
I am not a born Hindu thus always eager to learn about Hinduism.
You mention haldi or sindhoor.
I found the following translation for these words
Turmeric is the english word for haldi in Hindi. Turmeric, a representative of plant genus Curcuma.
The english word that can be used for "sindoor" is "vermilion"
The translation of the lingashtakam is mentioning saffron and sandal paste
I bow before that Sada Shiva Linga, which is smeared with saffron and sandal paste, which is decorated with lotus garlands and which wipes out all accumulated sins.
Now I am confused ...
