Gita Govindam - Need help
Hello,
I have been told recently that Gita Govindam by Jayadeva Swami is a "trashy, sex literature unsuited for the study by a common man for its erotic content".
I have been greatly offended by the above remark by someone who claims to be a scholar.
Has anyone in this forum read it or know verses in it that speak otherwise?
Afterall, it is the work of a very great devotee!
Thanks,
Viraja
Re: Gita Govindam - Need help
Namaste Viraja Ji,
This is why scholarly approach alone to Bhakti is useless, although I am a firm believer that Jnana supports Bhakti and cant be separated, but Jnana is not really something scholarly, my own personal feeling is that some things are best left out of mainstream as humans have the tendency to make or interpret everything in a mundane way. Scholars, who have value in empirical studies but little value in understanding the subtle areas of Dharma, often do more harm than good, unless they are devotees or Sadhaka's. They always seem to think that by reading books and grasping intellectual understanding they can know everything.
A devotee can be a scholar but a scholar will find it hard to become a devotee.
I was listening to this just recently and your post popped up so its a chance for to me share, the comments are interesting. Sometimes with these scholars the best thing to do is just put your fingers in your ears when they talk as they know nothing, not that I do :)
Sorry I cant help with what you ask.
