Namaste Viraja;
I don't agree with Sri Brihaspathi being regarded as a normal Brahmin, Sri Brihaspathi is certainly a Deva who is married to Sri Tara Devi, they are immortal, that's how he is continuing to be the GuruDeva of the Devas.. If I remember correctly a caste does not mean the God is not a God, for example Sri Shanishwara is Shudra by caste, but nevertheless he is an immortal Deva.
I am still confused regarding if Sri Shukracharya is a Deva or an Asura though.
Re: Sri Navgraha question..
Namaste!
As far as I know shukracharya is not Asura (I am not sure but), he was son of sage just like brihspati.. shukracharya wanted to become Guru of Devas but lord Vishnu make brihspati the Guru of Devas, also there is one incident in which shukracharya went to father of brihspati to learn Vedas but he didn't like his favorism towards brihspati..
So due to this all scenario shukra started hating lord Vishnu and become Guru of daityas (asuras) and help them with his mrit Sanjivani Vidya in the battle between Sura and asura
But as he is Guru of asuras then he is also Asura this should not be true as per my opinion shukracharya is deva whose task is to teach asuras..
But I haven't studied Purana much so I am not sure

Dear Chakreshvari
one more try to clear your confusion.
Symbolism
Of the nine planets, only seven are actually gods and the other two, Rahu and Ketu, are demons.

Re: Sri Navgraha question..
Dear Chakreshvari
Since I love Indian mythology your post made me curious to find out more on Shukra.
I think we may not mix two characters, one is Shukracharya, son of Bhrigu (and defenitely no asura) and preceptor of asuras, and the other is Shukra the graha. Both have their own mythology.
You wrote ‚I read that his sister is Sri Lakshmi Devi‘ and ‚Sri Shukracharya is drawn with a Vaishnav tilak‘.
This may refer to the following.
Shukraachaarya … He is in the lineage of Maharshi Bhrigu. … Maharshi Bhrigu was married to one of the nine daughters of Kardam Rishi : Khyaati. Bhrigu and Khyaati had two sons: Dhaataa and Vidhaataa; and one daughter : Shree (Lakshmee who was married to Vishnu).

Shukra is considered to be a Goddess of love, marriage, beauty and comforts. It is called Mahalakshmi, wife of lord Vishnu.

And finally a myth saying that shukra is the son of Shiva.

You see everything is possible in mythology. Anyhow I did not find any hint that Shukra is an asura.
Your question really expanded my knowledge – I hope you are satisfied too.

Thanks Chakreshvari for raising this question and I had this doubt ever since I started watching Karmaphal Daata Shani serial on Colors channel. Shukra or Venus is said to be the bosom friend of Shani, however the story has Shukracharya hunting for young Shani. Even though the mythology could not have been accurate in this serial, I was having my doubts and now with this post I'm clear too that they are different.
Thanks Indialover for the clarification :)
Re: Sri Navgraha question..
Dear realdemigod,
you brought in the third view – Shukra‘s role in astrology.
> Shukracharya hunting for young Shani < can make sense so far
Venus is the planet of love and relationship … Venus is the main planet of sexuality … Venus is wife in men chart ...
When Venus and Saturn are in conjunction, although Saturn and Venus are good friends in astrology but Venus is not happy when it sits with Saturn.

So you are saying both are one and same? I doubt it because in other mythologies too we have clear roles for Venus and underworld king or underworld God right? I know Venus wants pleasures and Saturn wants work done and restricts desires but I read at several places including The Greatness of Saturn Myth that Venus and Saturn are close friends.
Re: Sri Navgraha question..
No realdemigod, I still say they are two characters … your post just inspired me to add another view, the astrology view, that makes sense to what you mentioned and shows the complexity of characters in mythology.
