Does anyone know what day starts the week in Hinduism? If you could provide some sources, I would really like it too. Thanks!

When I was last in India they were using the the same names of the week as
they do in the U.K. I don't know what they called them before the coming
of the Brits or even what the length of the 'weeks' were.
In India they have adopted the 7 day week used in most of the world now.
However there is a history of experimentation with 'weeks' of different lengths
by different cultures over the years. You can read about that at

With our ears may we hear what is good.
With our eyes may we behold thy righteousness.

Thank you for your answer. Would you consider Sunday or Monday to be the beginning of a week?

Neither. I've always considered the first day of the week the day I returned to work after having a couple of days off.
I have not had a Monday through Friday schedule in most jobs that I've had and so the first day of the week varied for
me. From an objective standpoint, there is nothing in nature that demarcates a week - it is purely subjective.

We recognize 7 vāsara or days of the week within pañcāñga ( or 5 limbs, pañca + āñga ) i.e. the jyotiṣh and/or vedic method or organizing, understanding and using natural cycles for the benefit of timing, actions, and the like.
Each day has a quality to it, an influence. More can be found at this HDF posting: http://www.hindudharmaforums.com/showthread.php?t=10009
- ravi or sūrya vāsara
- candra or soma vāsara
- maṅgal or maṅgala vāsara
- budha vāsara
- guru or bṛhaspati vāsara
- śukra vāsara
- śani vāsara
Now , one may ask why do we recognize that our vedic week begins with sunday ( ravi or sūrya vāsara ). Because it is 1st, it is the cause of all that resides on this planet - animal, vegetable, bi-ped or quadra-ped. Nothing exists without the energy of the sun.
But there is more ( as you would expect) and we will leave that for another time.
