    Sanskrit course

    Namaste!

Please, is there any on-line course for learning Sanskrit which you could recommend? Or is this not a good approach? I have seen that Chinmaya Mission have some courses.

    Shanti

    Namaste,

Courses offered by Chinmaya mission are, in general, trustworthy. I have heard about them and visited their foundation when I used to study in 2003. At that time, they were doing good work. I do not know if something is changed recently.

Learning sanskrit may be fine. It's like learning any other language, but learning scriptures is different thing. As @realdemigod has said, learning scriptures needs a good Guru, rather I would say a Realized Guru.

    In descending order it's

(Realized) Guru --> Acharya --> Purohit --> Pandit

    Acharya:

Acharya is the one who purifies the atmosphere (vatavaran) by his/her conduct.

Acharya is devired from word Acharana and can be summarized as pavitra achrana (holy actions or purified actions)

    Purohit:

a brahmin caste whom are trusted to carry on Guru's work in absence of Guru. they mostly teach or practice Karma Kand, and may not may not be knowledgeable in many shastras)

    Pandit:

Knowledgeable in shastras, mostly is a temple priest.

Your replies are much appreciated. Due to my present situation, as a lone Dharmi in the rural Norway, 300 km from the nearest temple, an on-line course is the only solution.

    Namaste,

I really appreciate your willingness to learn sanskrit. Though It can be helpful, it is not necessary to be a sanskrit scholar for spiritual progress.

When there are few or no option, use what is available. e-course may be a solution for you, but I do not know any.

    Happy Diwali
