First of all I would say that this question is useless for our spiritual upliftment. You should be more concerned about what spiritual guidance is there in Bhagwad Gita then whether it was a historical account. The Truth of Bhagwad Gita has been realised by many saints & it is supported by the Shruti, the highest truth revealed to mankind. So, such doubts are hurdle to our spiritual progress. Please warn yourself with Bhagwan Krishna says in Gita, "ShansayaatmA prananashyati" ===> "The (too mush) doubting soul perishes".
Now that said, interested people have claimed a lot of historical proof for teh MahAbhArata which you can find on the internet. However, the event is so ancient that nothing can be said at this time, how much truth and imaginations have got mixed in the findings.
