    Re: sandhyavandan

After reading several articles on internet,I could get some idea about achamanam but could not get sanskrit origin for it.
When we do achamanam,we take drops of water into hand and say mantra om Achutaya namah,om Antanatayanamah,om Govindayanamah. These mantras converting this drops to celestial pure water and we need to allow this water to pass through mouth, gullet, stomach and absorbed into body so that our body is purified and we are ready to pray to Almighty.
By pranayam we are controlling our breath by mantras and purifying our mind ,so that bad thoughts do not enter our mind.
Once our body and mind is clean, then we are ready to pray to Almighty.
For any puja or prayer, the basic requirement is Chitta suddhi( purity of mind).
They say Cleanliness is next to Godliness. All our Hindu rituals automatically prepare you for this.

    Namaste Saidevo
Thank you very much for providing the web link.
This book on Sandhyavandan by Sri B.V.Kameswara Aiyar contained many details which were missing in present day books. It was published in 1898 which is more than 100 years old.Good work by Google Books and Harvard library in preserving such old books.
THe Gayatri mantra in Sandhyavandan is supposed to be most powerful mantra. According to some website on Gayatri mantra,it is now being broadcast daily for 15 minutes from 7 P.M. onwards over Radio Paramaribo, Surinam, South America for the past two years.

    Summary of the Gayatri Mantra

    AUM BHOOR BHUWAH SWAHA,
    TAT SAVITUR VARENYAM
    BHARGO DEVASAYA DHEEMAHI
    DHIYO YO NAHA PRACHODAYAT.

Gayatri Mantra (the mother of the vedas), the foremost mantra in hinduism and hindu beliefs, inspires wisdom. Its meaning is that "May the Almighty God illuminate our intellect to lead us along the righteous path". The mantra is also a prayer to the "giver of light and life" - the sun (savitur).
Oh God! Thou art the Giver of Life,
    Remover of pain and sorrow,
    The Bestower of happiness,
    Oh! Creator of the Universe,
May we receive thy supreme sin-destroying light,
May Thou guide our intellect in the right direction
