Without hurting your pride feeling about India may I ask you which part of India you live? Women from other countries might be facing more hardship than our women but I am not interested to know about it. It doesn't matter at all.

I come from down South, Chennai and female infanticide and gang rape are literally unheard-of!!! You tell me, is India known for "Female Infanticides"??

If you want to contest my claim, before doing that, kindly take any one of your female relative or friend or whom you know in a normal Indian public transport. And at the end of the trip ask her, was she comfortable through out the trip? Then go back to 8th post in this thread and later tell me what you feel.

I have no necessity to contest this claim. The fact remains that despite all hinderances, Indian women have attained the pinnacle of glory in their all-around achievements and their counterparts/dads facilitate this alll over the country! To me, this is a better parameter for growth and assessing the "state or condition of a given entity". I wouldn't have achieved what I achieved professionally if not for my hubby (though I am not currently employed)!

I wish you were right and i was wrong but google has got some completely different story to say.....

Now one can take comfort that it s one of the stray incident, and hence its OK.

Attaining pinnacle of glory or professional achievement is a different thing all together, isn't it? We are discussing here a very simple question. Is Hinduism generating animals or not? I stick to question raised by Believer in the post #8.

Some isolated cases do not justify saying an entire culture is made up of those who kill female infants or are gang-rapists. It just sounds like saying entire America/West is filled with pedophile fathers, child pornographers and elementary-school-kid shooters. Whereas so many people live peacefully and successfully. Similarly, Hinduism or culture in India does not restrict women from attaining great amount of success in life, if not so many vast number of women could not have attained the same.

Neither we are discussing this nor I claimed Hinduism restrict our women. So this does not cut the ice.

Where did I say that? Kindly read my reply to Believer (post #11). I am highlighting the systematic destruction of Hindu culture and ethics under the brand called pseudo secularism.

My views are :

1. Hindus in our country don't have any say in our nation (even after the so called independence).

2. Many of us who claim ourselves as practicing Hindus are not Hindus in the true sense.

At the first instance it might sound like I am making a sweeping statement, but kindly look at it in a broader perspective. Ever since the invasion, steadily we are loosing our pride, ethics and culture. Bhaarathiya culture is a Hindu culture and so as a Hindu we should ask ourselves where and why are we going wrong?

At the beginning you claimed that "female infanticide and gang rape are literally unheard-of!!!", but when I gave an example out of which few were not even a week old, you termed it as isolated incident. In the internet era, it s quite easy to dig skeletons, but I am not interested in that kind of arguments.

We can push the real issues under the carpet by saying isolated incidents or some thing else but how long are we going to stay away from truth?

I can give umpteen instances from the history to support my views ....

I took the example of public transport because it s common and no one could have escaped.

We worship Maa KaaLi in this swaroop, but when we enter into public transport how do we look at our sisters and mothers. Again I am not making a sweeping comment here or portraying all Indian men as Hyenas but trying to find out if we can worship Maa KaaLi in that swaroop then why the same thing not happening in the public transport as well.

I do not want to write dirt here, but I don't see any other way to get to the point. What dress Maa KaLi is wearing in the link i have provided?

My view is that if we are practicing Hinduism in its true sense, next time when a (every) practicing Hindu happen to see a women in a compromising position he will turn around and give the woman her rightful space.

I am not hurt by your sentiments/words, you can say, I have my heart and soul lie in Hinduism, India is my crowning glory and I honestly feel "Blessed are those who (still) live in India, especially in one of its sacred and holy places", I still believe it is a decent enough country to make a living for native Indians. ShivaFanji said he would not want to send his daughter to Delhi. A distant cousin of mine, the famous Tamil movie playback singer Srilekha Parthasarathy and other women in her family spent their lifetime growing there. She is making heads turn by her divine Carnatic music songs - she and others like her (there are so many) that have not been polluted any way - culturally, morally. And so my statements. I again appreciate your views.

Probably my illiteracy noted some traces of complacency in your post which I felt as an injustice to the scores of innocent Indians who are toiling when compared to the creamy layer.

How ever, your view can also be seen as reflections of an optimistic individual which in fact a mandatory quality to trudge ahead during tough times.

Some of the above posts are full of nationalist fervor and attempt to deflect what happens in India by throwing mud at US/West - not the proper thing to do for a proud culture. Assess the problem on its own merits/demerits, not by comparing it to what happens elsewhere. Please acquaint yourself with the whole of Bharat, not just your own city/town/village. Thank you for the links, Believer. I have an observation but I don't know if it is accurate, because it's a cultural difference, and I'm sure I don't know the whole story so perhaps you or other native Indians can shed some light on it for me.

It appears that the female infanticide problem is fueled by the existence of a strong dowry culture. Would you say this is accurate? I can't suggest a solution to that, since I can imagine it's difficult to enforce laws that pertain to such a private part of family life. How does one know who broke a dowry law?
