10 Ways to be a positive person

    Namaste/Vannakkum/Hello everyone

I'm new on the forum, so I don't quite know whether I am posting on the right board. If I'm not...apologies in advance!

Anyway...there's something that I've been thinking about quite a bit recently, and that's positivity in our lives. I mean...have you ever noticed how good you feel when you are around people who are positive.
On the flip side, there are some people who actually drain the energy out of you (albeit that some of them don't even realise it). I believe the term "energy vampires" is used to describe such people.

So...I've been doing some reading, and I came across some "pointers" as to how WE can become positive people, thereby influencing others around us.

Here's some of it (taken from an article by Raylene Harvey):-

    1. Celebrate being alive
    2. Become aware of your thoughts
    3. Stop comparing yourself to others
    4. Surround yourself with positive people
    5. Stop complaining, takeresponsibility, and smile more
    6. Focus on what you have, not on what you don't have
7.See failure as a stepping stone to success
    8. Be grateful for the things you already have
    9. Stop allowing criticism from others to get you down
    10. Realize that you have a choice to be positive today

    Namaste,

Those are great pointers to be a self-confident person to face the world and all its challenges in day-to-day life. Thank you. But I also think that taking time to reflect on what we lack that others might commonly have shall bestow us with humility and a desire for practicing spirituality to overcome the negatives. Also such reflections have given me greater appreciation of every individual in the Universe, I have come to believe if there is a state of 'release from birth and death' then that would, at some point of time, be attained by everyone on earth, be it currently sinner or saint, because of the very effort it takes everyday/every moment to be a human.

Also when we take some time to reflect on what we lack, that someone else we know has, we might appreciate that person better, similar appreciation back from them is what constitutes great sense of mutual respect between two individuals.

I have found that ~trying~ to be positive takes effort. Am I willing to attend to this effort ? Sure, but then I forget. It is the effort part that seems to be the hard part of the equation. I think there is a better way.

Infuse sattva ( Being) into your life. This comes from various practices. Then all the qualities of positivity come along naturally. Just like pulling one leg of a chair the other 3 legs come along... Like that, this sattva brings all the good qualities when it unfolds in one's life.

    11. Dont expect ANYTHING from others. The more you expect the worse
    it gets.
    12. Take whatever little the others offer, dont sulk that it is too little. In that
persons estimate you are only that much important to him or her. Just
remember point 11 to ease the pain.
