Vannakkam: Why Gujarat? Can you speak Gujarati? Perhaps Rishikesh would be a better place to start. Your title states 'Monasteries and Temples'. Hopefully you understand there is a huge difference between the two.

I don't think too many Hindu monasteries think of it in terms of 'some years' but rather in terms of a lifetime of renunciation. Of course it happens, but most souls wouldn't go in with the full intention of leaving.

You might have better luck looking in person rather than on line. Maybe a trip to India is in order. Also, if you search, the term 'mutt' or 'math' will get more results than 'monastery'.
