Where does one find such information of these opinions?

One needs to be aware that sama ved is sung ( musical rhythm); one needs to be aware of nāṭyaśāstra, as it comes from gandharva veda. It speaks of the harmony and rhythm of all of creation.

This is a topic for the 'canteen' folder and will be moved there tomorrow.

    Vannakkam Netz: Welcome to HDF.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand your post. There is lots of Hindu music in the form of bhajans and classical music of India. I'm not sure what you meant. Perhaps you can clarify for us.

    Namaste Netz,

Perhaps you are getting Hinduism confused with the oppressive religion of Islam, as many Muslims believe that music is forbidden by the Quran.

    Vannakkam,

I agree with Ramakrishna. Netz is trying to compare Hinduism with Islam. And that is wrong on so many levels. I've heard of the "music not allowed in Islam" thing before too. Upon googling, this is what I found on music and Islam:

Hinduism is nothing like that, Netz. So you don't have to even "think" it's not allowed.

Of Course it is allowed! India has a good musical tradition dating back to the vedic times. Sri Krishna played Bansi, Indra regularly listens to music in his court.
    Who gave you such infromation?

Didn't knew where to post anyway. I was in hurry.

Well, i am from India. Been hearing to a lot of music in my home(it's bollywood music, as well as english songs) which would re-direct to any activity that include premarital sex.

Such music is allowed? Obviously that type of music is allowed in every religion which would be a dedication towards god, we call it 'bhajan', but the one i am talking about is, heavy metal, rap, hip hop, pop, bollywood, hollywood, etc.

Hope you all got what i meant now.

    Dhanyavaad!

Hinduism permits soothing music, but hindus frown upon Rakshasa sangeetha eg., heavy metal or rap etc.
