Namaste.
After keeping up with current affairs of the world, I have come to realise that everything is just making me angry and sad....mostly at how human beings can be so blatantly and obviously stupid.
If our leaders can ignore what is happening, should I also ignore it? I am not in the position to do anything about it and many are not, but the events of the past week have thrown up many unanswerable questions....so many of them, I have started to compile a list of 'why is this so'?
1. Why does Indonesia release a convicted people smuggler amid talks between our two countries (Australia and Indonesia) for tighter border control and unilateral agreements?
2. Why is Egypt's coup not a coup, when the US is trying to protect it's oil interests in the region, yet oil prices are soaring due to the 'coup in Egypt'?
3. Why is it, that if a Muslim kills a Buddhist monk in Burma, nothing happens, yet if a Buddhist kills a Muslim in retaliation, there's a global outcry?
3a. Why did the Muslims bomb Bodhgaya - the most spiritual place for Buddhists in India because the Buddhists in Burma passed a law disallowing interracial marriage?
4. Why is it that the government of Brazil can afford to spend hundreds of millions on the World Cup and the Pope's visit, yet cannot afford better living conditions for its citizens?
5. Why does Saudia Arabia have intercontinental missiles aimed at Tehran and Tel Aviv for imminent launch?

6. Why are people in Delhi filming pornography on public trains, while the Indian government passes the buck on the Bodhgaya bombings and Acid attacks?
7. Why is the USA giving fighter jets and military aid to Egypt, when it's the military who just seized control of the country and jailed the democratically elected leader?
8. Why is Japan continuing to kill whales in our Southern Ocean, despite an international agreement stating they cannot do that...yet, they also say that any attempt to stop them from poaching in our oceans will result in diplomatic tensions between us and Japan?

It seems that every time I turn on the TV, read a newspaper or talk to people, this is all I ever get.
What the hell is this world coming to? Are things really that bad?
I feel disgusted to be a member of the human race.
It seems that if I shut of the TV, don't read news stories on the internet or printed media and change the subject whenever world affairs arise, I'd be much better off.
Do I really need to know all this rubbish? or is it a case of 'ignorance is bliss'?
