    Hi from Girisha

Hello, I知 from England though presently working at a Chinese university; I致e had an interest in Indian philosophy for about 25 years and been a practicing Hindu for five years. I知 a keen writer on links between Hindu thought and a range of Western subjects and I entered India for a tenth time this year for a pilgrimage to the Kumbh Mela, along with Vrindavan, Mathura, Ayodhya and Chitrakut. I値l be pleased to post from time to time and ask the odd question; namaste.

Welcome to HDF. I think you look very happy in those pictures; Hinduism has been wondrous for you, it seems. Well, I am glad. Stick around, ask questions.

    Hi,

I've just joined the forum myself and I'm from England too, although I am a lot newer to Hinduism. Thanks for sharing the pictures, it looks as though you've made some wonderful pilgrimages and visits to India.

    Welcome

    Namaste Girisha!
Such a wonderful opportunity you have had to be able to travel to Bharatavarsha! I agree, you should make a post telling further about your experiences there.

    Namaste Girisha,

And welcome. I am happy to see you on your pilgrimage. Thank you so much for sharing this joyous occasion with us.

I am an emerging writer. May I ask what western subjects you feel drawn to reflect on in unison with Hinduism?

Anima Deorum, many regrets for not seeing your post! I'm not too familiar with the forum yet and how to subscribe to threads for notifications; I'll try to post more often though.

I have a file of notes of observations and interesting links that I argue can be made between basics of advaita and areas that the chapter titles below allude to. They cover disparate things like education, ethics, democracy, postmodernism, race, courtship, film, deception, art music and Wagner.

Talk with you again- I wonder what your subjects are...

    The Dionysiac and gunas
    Relativity and Buddhism
    More and less conscious
    Aesthetics and ethics
    Learning
    Culture and conducivity
Digitization, the media and loss of art
    Democracy and postmodernism
    The West
    Sexual repression
    Africa and Asia
    Subject and object
    Unaffected relation
    Seduction and self-referentiality
    Psychology
    Physiology
    Pyramusandpsychosis
    Pyramus and the arts
Forbidden Planet and The Wicker Man
    The Sun
    The Abrahamics
    Nature of art
    Art music and other musics
    Academia and aesthetics
    Consonance

    Re: Hi from Girisha

    Namste Girisha,

Ah, these are wonderful ideas that you have. There is a book I have been meaning to read, but my thoughts are so fickle and destructive that I usually let them deflate instead of supplying my habit (of thought) with more material.

The book relates advaita to postmodern thought:

Indian Philosophers and Postmodern Thinkers: Dialogues on the Margins of Culture, by Carl Olson. Oxford University Press, 2002.

I have browsed the contents of this book at the library. Olson talks of thinkers like Derrida and Lacan. Personally, I have never read them. They just provide one more gnarled and twisted path to misunderstanding.

My subjects are the ideas carried on the winds, preserved in the fire, and born of the earth. They have affected me very deeply. They have many faces. My training is in philosophy. My study was mostly on Greek, Roman, German, and contemporary American thinkers. I admire Wagner's Ring cycle.

Now I only write poetry for my dearest ishtas. I am often reluctant to share it because it is often misunderstood and I want to publish more of it.

Anyway, the beauty of the heart is so much more brilliant!
