All SriVaishnavas must be knowing of 'Pancha Samskara' - the procedure of initiation into being a Srivaishnava and serving Sriman Narayana as the ultimate supreme reality.

I'm just using the above as an example. There are other sects that might have their own initiation procedures - a Shaivite might undergo Lord Shiva as the only supreme and so forth

By undergoing these samskaras, one vouches to god that he will never subdue to another deity as an alternate supreme, ever. He or she may not be able to visit the temples of other deities either.

I wonder why Hinduism has this type of 'segregation'?

Everyone will benefit from spirituality, praying to god grants wishes, heals our soul, gives all kinds of virtues.. but what is the necessity in viewing one's god as the 'ultimate supreme'? Does the deity itself expect this?
