    Bhairo Nath Mandir

    Namaste,

Just when I thought I had heard it all, in pops something new,

"Baba Bhairon Nath Temple is located behind the old fort near Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. It is dedicated to Bhairon Devata who is considered to be an avatar of Lord Shiva.

Built during the time of the Pandavas, the temple is the only one of its kind, where the offerings are bottles of rum and whiskey. It is believed by the devotees that if they offer liquor to Lord Shiva, their wishes would be fulfilled"

I guess that is one place where I would not be lining up for 'prasad'.

    Pranam.

    Pranam.
    Namaste, Believer-Ji.

I have not heard of this specific temple, but I have heard how Aghori Sadhus offer meat and whisky to Lord Shiva.

I don't know what to make of this, really - being a Bhairava devotee myself and by association, an Aghori.

I wouldn't line up for prasad either though.

There's a tale I recall and my ex-husband told me this.

He attended a Shiva temple in India, where they made Shiva Pancha Amrit the 'traditional way' which includes adding datura seeds.

He didn't know about this and taking a drop or two would have no effect.

He had to clean up after the puja, and not wanting to throw the rest of the Pancha Amrit out, he drank it all.

    He was tripping for days.

    Aum Namah Shivaya

Yes, they are a breed unto themselves, but this looks like a mainstream mandir, right in the heart of the capital among civilized, educated people.

Too much of everything is bad, even 'prasad'.

    Re: Bhairo Nath Mandir

This is the first time I am hearing alcoholic drinks being offered at a Shiva temple. But, for some Grama devatas who are in charge of taking care of the village and thus stay at the boundaries such as Sri Muniandi or Sri Kattavaraya are indeed offered 'madhu' and 'mamsam'. (or so I hear).

This makes me wonder, if Sri Bhairava at this temple is at the capacity of guarding some village.. if that's the reason why madhu is offered to him?
