Certainly. But this is his great test. If he fails, he will be shunted to one side like Advani. And let us not forget that the only person that the Congress ever gave heed to as a credible opponent in the BJP is Modi. So his failure means a loss of fear for his rivals.

But as CNN-IBN pointed out, his chances are very slim. Besides Shiv Sena, Akali Dal, AIADMK and a handful of north-eastern parties, alliance problems plague the BJP. Only if they get around 210-220 seats, there is a ray of hope. Count out alliances with SP, JD(U), Left and possibly BSP - they hate Modi's guts.

And in relation to dharma, let us hope that good governance prevails in our favor. The robbing of temples and smuggling vigrahas to Europe and America has been going on long enough.

Yey! I am hearing wonderful things about the Gujarathi CM, I wish him tremendous amount of luck to win the elections and be the greatest pro-Hindu PM of India!

I agree. I, too, hope that good governance prevails. We all do.

    Pranam

Great news, a step in right direction, unfortunately he has big hurdles to surmount. The biggest hurdle is media in my opinion, next the label of communalism, such a pity in our own country to be Hindu has become a swear word, our traditional dress is subject of ridicule, they call them saffron brigade in a derogatory way. When will we have pride back in our culture I wonder!
Gundas like Lalu have goal off calling BJP communal.

    Go Modi ji Go

    Bharat maata ki Jai

    Jai Shree Krishna
Rig Veda list only 33 devas, they are all propitiated, worthy off our worship, all other names of gods are derivative from this 33 originals,
Bhagvat Gita; Shree Krishna says Chapter 3.11 devan bhavayatanena te deva bhavayantu vah parasparam bhavayantah sreyah param avapsyatha Chapter 17.4 yajante sattvika devan yaksa-raksamsi rajasah pretan bhuta-ganams canye yajante tamasa janah
The world disappears in him. He is the peaceful, the good, the one without a second.

Yes, 210-220 is the magic number for the BJP. Then with the 25-30 seats of AIADMK they can make a serious bid for power.

Uttar Pradesh is the crucial swing state in this election. The BJP won 57 seats there in 1998. It has only 10 seats now. There are signs of a BJP resurgence there. If the BJP gets 50+ sets in UP they can win nearly 200 seats on their own, which will give them a good chance of forming the next government.

Re: Narendra Modi is the BJP's PM candidate for 2014

Modi made his first speech post anointment yesterday, and set out his defence and foreign policy.

I was very impressed by the following points he made-

Pakistan and China are fighting a proxy war to bleed India by attrition.
India needs to have a proactive foreign policy focused on preventing acts of aggression in its immediate neighbourhoid which is filled with militarist banana republics and openly hostile nuclear-armed neighbours.
The UPA's foreign policy has revolved around appeasing these anti-India forces, which has lead to demoralizing of the armed forces.
Maoism is a proxy war being waged on our soil.
Almost all our weaponry is purchased from other countries. We need to begin mass- producing our own weapons. This is the first time I have seen an Indian leader even mention this problem.

    In all, I was impressed.

Re: Narendra Modi is the BJP's PM candidate for 2014

By my earlier comment, I should have made some things clear. The smuggled vigrahas are primarily going to Italy, if you get my drift.

Modi's "One Rank, One Pension" was a stroke of genius. Way to unite the country is to get behind the Indian army.

He will have to do something magical to scrounge something significant in both UP and Andhra as these states have the most anti-modi minority populations.

Lastly, he needs to improve his english. If he is going to be a PM, he wil have to speak on international platforms. It may seem trivial, but language makes all the difference. And I hope that he does not go soft if he does win the elections. In my opinion, he should actually emulate Jayalalitha; her stance with Arnab Goswami on various national issues was authoritative and decisive.
