Rama in reclining posture

I just recently came across this town - 'Vengadampettai' located in Tamil Nadu (near Kadaloor district) that enshrines Sri Krishna and Sri Rama in a grand temple that seems to just have been renovated. The beauty of Sri Rama is too captivating! He is in a reclining posture, lying down on AdiSesha with Sita at his feet and also with Hanuman worshiping him at his feet! The other 2 kshetras (actually divyadesams) that Sri Rama is found thus in a lying posture are: Thiruppulla Bhoodangudi (This temple is located 10 km from KumbakONam in ThanjAvUr district between the rivers KAvEri and KoLLiDam) and in Thiruvallur near Chennai, TN.

If you have seen Rama in a different posture, lying down or standing in a bit different mode than his usual, please discuss it here in this thread. (I read about a kshetra a while ago where Rama along with Sita visited on the way back to Ayodhya after slaying Ravana, when they visited some sage - here, at this temple, Rama is said to stand a feet ahead of Sita, if you know the temple I am talking about, please refer it here.)

Beautiful pictures. I would think the photo of a Moolavar [or the main deity of any temple] should not be taken though.

My knowledge of Divyadesam, to my shame, is poor. But is ThiruppullAni dharba Shayana Perumal a part of the above? THe sthalam records Ramar having worshipped samudram in a reclining pose i believe.

From the link you had given one can understand the condition of the temple. There are many neglected Vaishnava temples in that area. I am not sure whether you have heard about Sri Mushnam, but the condition of this temple reminds me Sri Mushnam.

After slaying Raavana, Shree Raam stopped at Kishkintha (as Sugriva and other Vaanar(s) wished to visit Ayodhya along with their wives) and at hermitage of Bharadwaja before reaching Ayodhya. I guess the kshetra you are referring should be at Bharadwaja hermitage.

(It saddens my heart to hear about the condition of Vengadampettai temple, despite renovations, they say, the 7-tier rajagopuram is not to be used for entrance, lest it should cave in on some unknowing devotee... sorry to hear about famous Sri Mushnam temple needing such renovations too...).

I am taking the liberty to post from the link you had given...

It is heartening to read that temples are maintained as temples and not as tourist spots...

I have seen devotees taking photographs in side the temple premises (only the inner most sanctum is barred from cameras and cellphone) in Madurai Meenakshi temple.
In crowded temples like Thirumala, you can see people wearing revealing western outfits and night dresses like lungi, 3/4th pants etc etc

Also can any one tell me why we shouldn't wear dress which shows both legs separately. If there is a reason behind, I will stop wearing pants to temple.

Devotees have to strictly follow the dress code. Men should remove clothes above waist and deposit in the locker room.

No one is permitted to wear dress that displays both legs separately.

This means no pants for men or churidhar for women. Dhotis can be borrowed at the locker room for Rs. 15. Dhotis can be worn over pants or churidhar. No cell phones or cameras are permitted inside the temple. Cell phones must be deposited in the locker room after taking it out of the bag for Rs. 15 a piece. Hand bags are permitted inside.

No one is permitted to wear dress that displays both legs separately.

This could only be a warning against a kind of practice that is usually seen among the common folks, who fold up their dhoti like a micro-skirt (and their legs are seen separately) which considered being an act of disrespect in spiritual societies. We stick ourselves to semantic analysis as we do not find any scientific explanations to it .

These ultimate standards of perfection and excellence including ritualistic exegesis up to the dress codes of the devotees whom would like to enter the temple premises were recommend by the wise in a comparatively earlier period ,when outfits like jeans, pants etc. were foreign to Indian soil. Therefore dhoti is recomended here.

Indian spirituality is more of a hierarchal kind; the total knowledge situation is classified into different systems with various levels of understanding, while every single methods serves the role of a saviour and leads the devotees to the ultimate wisdom; therefore it is also understood that we have the liberty to chose and accept what we like and to reject that doesn’t suit our own understanding. Love
