    CAN HINDUS EAT THIS?

    Namaste

I just read an article in the news paper about this fruit. It is said to be taken during summer months. It is from the palm/toddy tree ,do the scriptures permit consumption of this fruit?

EDIT:I tried to resize the images many times but they are appearing in their original size.

    Namaste,

I have eaten it many times and it tastes good. It is juicy and has sweet pleasant taste.

You may very well eat it and there is no ban on eating it in scriptures as far as I know. However, it is advisable to take only small quantity at a time because if taken in large quantity, it can cause some pain in stomach until it is digested. In Tamilnadu you get many people selling this. It is available easily in rural parts of India wherever Palm (Toddy tree) grows.

    Namaste,

It is a soft, sweet fruit somewhat firmer than the gel-like inside of a unripe, green coconut. Why would anyone even consider it to be prohibited is beyond me. We are not talking about fermented juices here; it is the raw fruit; soft and sweet. What could be better than a natural edible fruit? Of course one must buy it with the outer protective skin intact and wash it thoroughly before peeling off the skin to expose the edible part. The closest I can think of for the sake of comparison of the edible part is the lychee fruit. It is available mostly in the tropical southern states of India.
