    Lord Vishnu only in India?

    Namaste friends,

I was on Youtube not to long ago listening to some mantras and watching Krishna videos and someone posted a comment that really had me thinking.

He asked why does Lord Vishnu only incarnate himself in areas in India?

Are there any accounts of Vishnu incarnating outside of India?

    Please excuse my ignorance.

    Namaste,

Bhagavan appears only in Hindu Vaidik families. Note that when he appears he's with a great fortune like of Shri, Vairagya and Birth in higher varnas. He appears to restore Dharma which is related only to Bharatavarsha.

Puranas praises Bharatavarsha as Mokshabhumi and says that even gods wish to take birth in bharatavarsha in vaidik families. Such birth is a sure way to moksha. It is knows as Mokshabhumi as most of the people here attains moksha. Birth in Bharata is the highest as one is born in Brahmana, Kshatriya and Vaishya varna.

Lets see what puranas say. Following words are extractions from Puranas.
Puranas mention India as the landmass that stretches from the snowy peaks of Himalayas to the splashing Indian Ocean. Bharatavarsha has nine divisions named Indradweep, Kaseru, Tamraparn, Gamastiman, Nagdweep, Soumya, Gandharva, Varun and Yahadweep which is surrounded by the sea and has an expansion of 1000 Yojans. In the eastern part of Bharata ( Iran like countries ), live Kirat whereas in the western part live Yavans. In the Bharata, live population of Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas and Shudras who pass their lives engage in works ascribed to their respective class. So as people who've varna lives only in Bharatavarsha, Vishnu takes avatara in India.

Four yugas namely Satya Yuga, Treta Yuga, Dwapar Yuga and Kali Yuga descend on Bharatavarsha. In Bharatavarsha, sages observe penance to attain better life in another world, people organise Yagyas and offer donations to the Brahmins respectfully. In Jambudweep, Lord Vishnu is worshipped in Yagyas. Bharatavarsha is the land par excellence in Jambudweep for it is a land of action. Soul passes through millions of births, only then it finds a chance to take birth in Bharatavarsha when its pious deeds accumulate to a certain extent. Even the gods envy those people who take birth in Bharatavarsha. People in Bharatavarsha act without a desire to get fruits from their action. They dedicate their whole action to Lord Vishnu and ultimately mingle with Him.

From Markandeya Purana : " Bharatavarsha is the only country in the whole world where all the four yugas- Satya, Treta, Dwapar, and Kali occur in a cyclic way. Bharatavarsha is the root of all forms of divinity where deities reside and almighty God takes incarnation."

"Beyond the boundaries of Bharatavarsha live the disbelievers (that is, those who disbelieve in the Vedas). To the east live the kiratas and to the west live the yavanas.
Bharatavarsha is populated by brahmanas, kshatriyas, vaishyas and shudras. There are seven major mountain ranges in Bharatavarsha. These are known as Mahendra, Malaya, Sahya, Shaktimana, Riksha, Vindhya and Paripatra. "

Such is the glory of India. Thus Vishnu who likes Brahmanas took avatara in the place where Brahmana are ie in BHARATA. He doesn't appear in the mass of kirita and yavanas who're castless and whose religion is non-vedic.

    Hail to our Mother, Bharata.

Clearly, Lord Vishnu likes India better than all other places and so do the other Gods and Goddesses. We understand them better. Of course, Hindu sages will then take the teachings to the whole world.

    Namaste..

Firstly, that wasn't my view, it was scriptures view.

No, they can't be. Because some prophets of other religions are mentioned in Puranas, not as a divine but as a evil avatara. In Bhavishya Purana, Islam prophet Muhammad is mentioned as an incarnation of evil Tripurasura. It's stated there that Lord of kali-age descended in countries other than India to establish mleccha dharma.

Moreover Avatara of Vishnu are descended to establish Dharma based on Veda, not to teach non-vedic teachings of Bible or Qur'an. I think one should not expect Moksha through the teachings of Bible or Qur'an which was written by people like us.

    Hello,
Yes i know those are our scripture's view and they are always true.I know of Tripurasura ,the demon, reincarnated as Prophet Muhammed to establish a Paisacik (Ghostly,Demonic) Dharma on earth. So the conclusion is the different figures who are uphold as messengers, sons of God in different sects actually can very well be messengers and avatras of Asuras, because like devas, asuras also incarnate from time to time to propagate evil on earth.
    Thanks and regards.

That is right. Hindu avataras are born in India only.

    Hello,
That is because Gods needs a pure atmosphere to descend.Even when we do puja, we go through a wholeset of purification processes like achaman, nyasas, pranayams etc.The whole idea is to get ourself pure inside aswell as outside, only then the Gods can be approached. And indian soil provides that pure platform for their divine actions.Asuras ,on the other hand can come down to any place on this earth. They will however choose the impure and non vedic places more which will aid them to preach sin and Adharma more easily.
BTw ,If Surya Bhagwan (Sun God )has to take avatar ,he will be born in india only,And what his Avatar will be called then ? Sun God's Hindu avatar.?
God's avatar is God's avatar for everyone on this planet, there is nothing like Hindu avatar and XYZ avatar.etc.
    Regards.

Re: Lord Vishnu only in India?

Sun in RigVeda means Adityas, sons of God Mother Aditi. Vedic acceptance is for eight suns of whom the last, Martand, was born dead/unformed etc.

    Ṛig.

"Of the eight sons of Aditi, who were born from her body, she approached the gods with seven and cast out Mârtâṇḍa. With seven sons Aditi approached (the gods) in the former age (pûrvyam yugam); she brought thither Mârtâṇḍa again for birth and death."

Different names have been given in various richas. Rig. II, 27 1 mentions Mitra, Aryaman, Bhaga, Varuṇa, Dakṣha, Aṁsha.

Taittirîya Brâhmaṇa (I, I, 9, I ƒ) tells us that Aditi cooked the oblation four times and each time the gods gave her the remnant of the oblation. Four pairs of sons were thus born to her; the first pair was Dhâtṛi and Aryaman, the second Mitra and Varuṇa, the third Aṁsha and Bhag and the fourth Indra and Vivasvat.

Taittiriya Âraṇyaka (I, 7, 1-6) gives the following names: Aroga, Bhrâja, Patara, Patanga, Svarṇara, Jyotiṣhîmat, Vibhâsa and Kashyapa; the last of which is said to remain, constantly at the great mount Meru, permanently illumining that region.

The Shatapatha Brâhmaṇa, III, 1, 3, 3, explains the legend of Aditi somewhat on the same lines. It says that seven alone of Aditi’s sons are styled Devâḥ Âdityâḥ (the gods Âdityas) by men, and that the eighth Mârtâṇḍa was born undeveloped, whereupon the Âditya gods created man and other animals out of him.

    Namaste,

Only Vishnu takes avatar, no other Devata does. Vishnu has got not much to do with "Sun God" - whatever does that mean.

But yes, you are correct in saying that Shri Vishnu can come anywhere on the earth, at least statistically speaking, with howsoever great or less a chance of coming to a particular region.

And Vishnu can come to earth in any mode, whatever pleases Him, so He can come in the Surya-mode, or Indra-mode, and so on, or even in combined modes.

Different Devata-s, however, can bless certain individuals but that is not avatar.

Sun is an Aditya, alright, but Aditya doesnt mean Sun. Aditya only means, "Aditi's child" or "of Aditi".

Further, there are 12 Adityas in total, out of which 6 (or 7= 6+Surya or even 8= 6+Surya+the 7 as one) are "different" from the other 6 in "some way". Vishnu is also an Aditya but notice that He isn't counted in the first set of 6 Adityas, since He belongs to the other 6.

    ******
    ******
    Summary:

    Only Vishnu takes avatAra.

    And also some other notes:
Aditya doesnt mean Sun. (infact neither does Savitr of Gayatri mantra fame)
"Sun God" doesnt mean anything. It doesnt even fully equate with Surya (whose murthy is indeed the Sun, and light, but is not equal to it).
    Things to remember:

    1. Life = yajña
    2. Depth of Āstika knowledge is directly proportional
to the richness of Sanskrit it is written in
    3. Āstika = Bhārata ("east") / Ārya ("west")
    4. Varṇa = tripartite division of Vedic polity
    5. r = c. x²
    where,
    r = realisation
    constant c = intelligence
    variable x = bhakti
