    Re: Rama-Vishnu Shlokas Help

    Dear Soul

    You've got mail

    As mentioned earlier, BhagvAn NArAyaN avatAr, their purpose, are listed in time sequence with reference to the era ( name of kalpa, sarga -- kumar sarga, Rushi sarga etc.) and explained in Shrimad BhAgavt purAN Canto 1 Chapter 3. Must read.
    However, if not as detailed shlokas, let me at least list the avtars here, for others.

    1. sanak sanandan sanAtan sanatkumAr (4 bramhavAdi brAmhins)
    2. varAha [yadnya-varAha] (pruthvi -- rasatAL -- hiranyaksha demon)
    3. DevaRshi nArad (sAtvatra tantra, nArad pancharAtra, bhakti)
    4. nar-nArAyaN (tapascharya, sayyam)
    5. Kapil dev (sAnkhya-bhakti)
    6. dattAtreya (guru-principle, compassion, bhakti, jnAna)
    7. yadnya (protected living beings in svayambhu manvantar i.e. era)
    8. Rshabh dev (vairAgya, kaivalya, svadharma)
    9. King PRuthU (ideal king, brought balance to Pruthvi and nature)
    10. matsya (taught vaivasvat manu the philosophy of being while demonstrating His enormity)
    11. kUrma (churn and twist mandAr parvat to bring out the butter of good and strain out debri of evil)
    12. Dhanvantari (Deva-physician, brought the celestial nectar of immortality for devas)
    13. Mohini mUrti -- to delude asura (demons/asuri nature/forces) and give amrut (nectar) to sura (deva/divine)
    14. NRsiMha (destroy hiraNyakashyapU - asur-birth#1 of Jay/Vijay)
    without transgressing boon given to the demon by BramhA : killed the demon as neither man not beast, neither inside nor outside - on threshold, at neither day nor at night -- at twilight, using no weapons -- own nails...
    15. vAman (dwarf bramhin) -- brought svarga back to Indra and all devatA from Bali's reign
    16. ParshurAm - put an end to unrighteous, unjust and cruel kshatriya who misused their power
    17. KRshNa dvAypAyana Veda VyAs (compiler and divider of vedas into 4)
    18. Shri RAm -- maryAdA purushottam ideal
    19. BalarAm
    20. ~*~*~ Shri KRshNa ~*~*~
    21. Buddha
    22. Kalki

    SB 1.3.26 O Rshis, just like a never-drying ocean gives rise to innumerable uncountable currents (pravAha), SattvanidhI BhagvAn Shri Hari takes numerous avtars [over a period of eternity]
    NOTE: { The same avtars appear in each kalpa and the cycle continues, hence when we see 3-4 different stories about how something happened, it is to be understood as kalpa-bheda (slight difference in history of each era e.g. varAha dev of era 1 versus varAha dev of era 2 }

    I am glad you liked the shlokas and the story. Where is Bilveshwar?

    1. Today -- Porbandar Gujrath is the location of Bilveshwar Mandir which explains that Shri KRshNa must have brought Bilveshwar near DwarikA. RameshBhai OzA has built a beautiful Shri Hari Mandir in Porbandar Gujrath. There is a Sudama Mandir also there, veru beautiful. So this is all related to DwArikAdheesh VAsudev Shri KRshNa

    2. Bilveshwar is one of 8 manifestations of Shiva in response to 8 manifestations of Parvati Devi at Purushottam Kshetra.

    Where is Purushottam Kshetra? Utkal, Orissa. The teertha of Jagannath Puri is Purushottam Kshetra. It manifested as a result of MArkanDeya Rshi eulogizing BhagvAn VishNu after He showed Him the deluge and Himself as a baby sucking His toe on a banyan leaf
    Reference:
    a) BhAgvat purAN Canto 12 -- Markandeya Rshi asks Bhagvan VishNu who gives Him darshan to show him what is mAyA;

    b) Skanda PurAN

    section: HOLY PLACES IN THE VICINITY OF PURUSHOTTAM - KSHETRA
    Goddess Laxmi said--' O Dhanraj! This holy place (of Purushottam Kshetra) is beyond your jurisdiction because people living there never experience death. It is well protected by eight goddesses from all the eight directions. The names of these eight goddesses are Mangla, Lamba, Kaalratri, Marichika, Vimla, Sarvamangla, Ardhashini and Chandrupa. How can lord Rudra be absent when Rudrani has manifested herself in eight forms, so, he has manifested himself in eight different forms as well- Kapalmochan, Kshetrapal, Yameshwar, Markandeyeshwar, Ishan, Bilveshwar, Neelkanth, and Vateshwar.While describing the majesty of Purushottam kshetra, goddess Laxmi revealed to lord Brahma--' In the coming satya yuga there would be a king named Indradyumna and would be famous for his unflinching devotion in lord Vishnu. Being pleased by the king's devotion, lord Vishnu would ultimately manifest himself from a wooden structure to bless him. Vishwakarma would then carve out four idols (Jagannath, Balbhadra, Subhadra and Sudarshan chakra) from the wooden block all of which would be installed by none other than you (Brahma).'
