    The Background Music

    Namaste,

At times I read the Sunday horoscope just because sometimes it has a deep philosophical undertone. I will present some in the forum, in case someone cares.

"Like the movies, reality is better with background music. You'll put more thought than usual into your musical choices now, as you realize how important it is to strike the right mood with people."

In movies, and specially in Indian movies, we witness the songs in happy situations, in sad situations, in situations involving separation of soulmates and about many other situations. In each case the background music enhances the emotional impact and the enjoyability level of the song. Similarly, when something is said to another person, the background music - the softness/harshness of the tone used, the words chosen, accuracy of the message, the particular moment of delivery and the passion/believability in the voice - all play a critical role in how the message is received. This takes us right back to the austerity of speech (BG 17.15) which essentially stresses the need for the right background music. Reality, communicated to another person is more palatable when it is accompanied by the right background music.

    Dance of the Soul

    Namaste,

'Because of your affectionate feelings, this person's face is your favorite art, and your soul dances to the music of his or her voice.'

When we have a strong connection (some call it being in love) with an individual, our existence revolves around this person's voice/proximity/well-being/companionship. Our soul yearns to behold and perpetually be one with him/her. Spiritual progress transfers this 'dance of the soul' to the 'music' of our chosen deity. We get caught up helplessly in His/Her every ebb and flow. The music becomes progressively sweeter and our dance moves, more intense.

    Pranam.
