    The hexagram for Kolam

    Namaste,

Frequently Hindus, especially South Indians, draw 'Kolam' using rice flour in the above shape (Shape of a Hexagram) before the home shrine. What is the significance of this diagram? What does it represent when drawn before the deity?

    Thanks.

Vannakkam: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shatkona There are various interpretations. Two interlocking triangles, the upper one representing unmanifest (Shiva), the other one representing manifest (Shakti).
