    I'm not aware of Palmistry. So I don't know what type of format he used. But he himself has mentioned that he learned this from a Maharashtrian. Please refer the below link for details.

    ADB gives an A rating to his data:

    Notes can be considered in Rodden's ADB

    How can you say "no information" about this on the Wiki page KrishnaTVM has linked to? It is very explicit from his own account :

    As mentioned in his memoirs, Cheiro acquired his expertise in India. As a teenager, he traveled to the Bombay port of Apollo Bunder. There, he met his Guru, an Indian Brahmin, who took him to his village in the valley of the Konkan region of Maharashtra. Later Cheiro was permitted by Brahmans to study an ancient book that has many studies on hands;

    Cheiro may be talented and seeing his readiness the Guru from Konkan must have accepted him as a disciple. He learned the Vaidic shAstra from the palmist (Vedic scriptures and the science of astrology as a vedAnga - a limb i.e. section of the Vedas).
    A famous world renowned psychologist and a famous
    world-renowned Mathematician also learned their specific, specialized art and science from Indian Rshis a few hundred years ago.
