Shri Ram - Lower in status?

    Namaste,

I am a serious Rama bhakta. It pains me to think that when it comes to serious ailments, remedies and such, people immediately think of other gods - say Narasimha, Hanuman (if Vaishnava) but fail to think of Sri Rama. Down South, there is even a belief that worshiping Sri Rama will only grant one more sufferings for an eventual moksha. I know this belief is wrong. It affects my sadhana sometimes to think that Rama is viewed this way. Hanuman ji who is Sri Rama's devotee is thought of as very powerful, whereas Rama, his master, is not!

How can I not feel like praying to some lesser devata and come to viewing Sri Rama for the supreme being that he is?

    Thanks.

    Namaste Viraja,

Ram is Brahman. All devataas are his own manifestations with various powers, forms and names. When Baali was felled by Ram, Ram, out of compassion asked Baali to ask for any boon. Baali said that nothing was greater than Mukti from all bondage that he was getting from Ram Himself and so he had no other desires left.

It is wrong to think that Ram cannot give what other devataas can give. Yes, other devataas cannot give what Ram can give.

Its a geo political issue. You can't do anything to change other people's perception. Earlier kings were fighting now even the common man on this subject.

Shri RAm is Shri Hari (VishNu). Hari takes away (harate) all your worry, attachments, fears, material desires, and trades them for mukti. By this time some devotees further trade the mukti for bhakti (or so they think) but He tricks them into both

    Namaste,

All incarnations are the manifestation of the same Divine. So, they are all equal. We derive inspiration and strength from different deity forms and consider them to be superior than others; which is quite irrational. But the deity form that provides us with the maximum benefit, the one which feels right for us must continue to be worshiped as the Supreme and held in the highest esteem.

In Gujarat, the common greeting among many is 'Jai Shri Krishnaa'; in the Hindi heartland, it is 'Raam, Raam'. Similarly in other parts of India and among different ethnic/linguistic groups, different deity forms are invoked as part of salutation. This does not make any form higher/lower than others. It is just a matter of personal preference/the deity form that provides most spiritual vibrations/regional or family tradition. You should never feel like you are worshiping a deity form which is lower than others. Giving too much credence to buffoons disturbs your peace of mind and hinders your sadhana. So, the choice is yours - to listen to every idiot and be affected by them or to focus on sadhana of the deity form of your choice and advance spiritually. Avoid imbibing negativity from discussions in other forums at all costs. Spend your idle time in a positive way rather than reading the views of those who have no knowledge of what they are talking about.

    Pranam.
