Hindu Munnani is against New Year's midnight celebrations

    Namaste HDF,

Hindu Munnani against New Year's midnight celebrations:
Coimbatore: The Hindu Munnani has urged the district administration to prevent poojas at temples on the intervening night of New Year and also impose a ban on revelries. http://newstodaynet.com/tamil-nadu/h...idnight-poojas

    Question:

Many staunch Hindus are also against celebrating the English New Year.
Nevertheless, has it occurred to anyone that I) When we cast the horoscope/natal chart for Jyotish purposes, we only use the Western DOB? ii) That even for predicting how countries would fare, we only use the English date of acquisition of freedom? For example, the natal chart for India is one that had been cast for 1947 August 15th at midnight.

Why is nobody offering clarification that such practices are right/wrong?

    Thanks,

    Viraja

    Dear friend ,
Accoring to our tradition day starts with sun rise and ends with next sunrise So we got Independence on 14th august and not on 15th august .Btritish rulers declared it as 15th because it is their tradition . Even Birthday celebrations they go by their methosd . Apart from that ,they switch of the lights and blow off candles , whereas in our tradition , we consider it a bad omen to blow of candles or lamps or switch of lights. Probably that could be the reason for the protests against the midlight celebrations. Then coming to the point of preparation of chart , we take in to account thithi , nakshathram ,karanam ,ghati etc.

I might not have understood your question fully. I agree with Saswathi that Indian astrology calculates day by Sun rise to sun rise.

Simple and blunt answer. We are still mentally slaves of our invaders. In India it's cool to mock Hindu culture. Due to years of slavery, submissiveness has corrupted our DNA. That's why to make our ends meet we are still following them.
