    Talking Tilak/bindi?

    Hi all!

I have been a devotee of Lord Shiva for the past ten years.

I have been reading about the tradition and benefits of wearing a tilak and would like to do so. As vibhuti is hard to find in Ireland, I would like to wear the kumkum dot. However I have seen some say that only married people should wear this. Other sources disagree. It's very confusing!

Also have been experimenting with making homemade kumkum and haven't been too successful. So I think my only real option would be to mix turmeric with something like makeup to give not only the red colour, but the sticking power I think I would need! Not sure if this would be OK, but then again I know people sometimes just use stickers so...

Yes I am confused, I would appreciate some advice etc!

    Namaste!

Well that's why I ask...I feel that I do understand...but at the same time I read conflicting information and I doubt I have understood properly...

For others not familiar with vibhūtiḥ (sacred ash) used for tilaka ( some spell tilak) consider this post:http://hindudharmaforums.com/showthread.php?3656-Customs-and-Traditions&p=26469#post26469

For customs and traditions in general, consider this overall string from 2009: http://hindudharmaforums.com/showthr...and-Traditions

If you (Morrigan) wish to purchase kumkum dot supplies consider this site:

    http://www.rudraksha-ratna.com/k/fra...sindoor-tilaks

If you (Morrigan) wish to know more about the application of vibhūtiḥ (sacred ash) consider the śiva mahāpurāṇa¹ which will review its application.

    इतिशिवं
    iti śivaṁ
