    Christian feast today

    Namaste

Today is an important Christian feast, Corpus Christi, celebrated by Catholics only.

In old times, days before, altars were built up in the streets and I remember very well, when I was a child and went with my mother to offer flowers. Even though we were Protestants she followed this old ritual, Catholics preserved. Today this custom vanished in the cities, but is still alive in Catholic villages.

Watch the celebration in a traditional Catholic country – in Spain. Isn’t it so similar to a Hindu festival? No doubt - Hinduism is the source of everything.

    Namaste,

Thanks for posting this Catholic version of the Jagannath Yatra.

At 4:07 minutes I see two soldiers carrying guns with bayonets mounted on them on either side of the front of the parade; what's up with that?

    Pranam.

They are the kshatriyas, Believer. They tribute the divine together with the brahmins.

Europe had – and has – the same 4 varnas in the same order.
Clergy, knights, farmers/merchants, workers – today clergy, government/military, farmers/commerce, workers.

To die on the battlefield was an honor, the dead soldiers went directly to Valhalla.

Thanks for the information. Habits die hard, and so is our basic instincts. We lived and shall live in groups, naturally classification will eventually occur.

    Namaste Indialover,

Thanks for educating me in the varnas of Europe.

    Dear Believer,

Walhalla has become a synonym for the warrior‘s heaven. It was the builder‘s decision to construct this monument in Greek style. Greek mythology has only one heaven for all … like in India, where Kauravas and Pandavas reached the same destination. However Kauravas, the fallen warriors, were first!

But to come back to Yatra … I took your post to collect some Jagannatha Yatras in Europe.
