    Brahmacharya(chastity) without guidance of a guru(spiritual master)?

    Namaste.

I have tried a few times to practice a rigid and rigorous brahmacharya(chastity), the result has always been disastrous.

After a few weeks I was constantly having sexual fantasies and accumulating a strong emotional tension because of which I was constantly going to the bathroom...I wasn’t doing what you might think now...I defecate and urinated like a frightened elephant.

I also read the book "Practice of brahmacharya" by Swami Sivananda in my first language...unfortunately I lost the book.

I would like to try again to practice brahmacharya in order to transmut sexual energy into Ojas Sakti(spiritual energy) to use to awaken the kundalini.

My question is if I can succeed in brahmacharya even now or I have to wait to meet a guru.

    Namaste Orlando ji,

The best remedy to take all anarthas away is to chant the Hare Krishna mahamantra 16 rounds a day.

The other day I watched this video clip on Youtube and it was so compelling for me to start chanting 16 rounds a day (I only do 4 rounds a day but it takes me an hour).

Life of a Devotee Episode 01 - Amar Krishna Das - YouTube

The humble tailor says he has lost all of his bad habits after taking to 16 rounds of mahamantra japa each day.

    Pranam.

    Namaskar Viraja.

Please note that I left permanently Gaudiya Vaishnavism/Krishna Consciousness and am trying slowly to become a Sri vaishnava.

So I have no more reason to recite the Hare Krishna mahamantra.

Instead, when I feel like it,recite a few rounds of the mantra "Om Namo Narayanaya"...still use the same tulasi japamala that I used when recited the Hare Krishna mahamantra.

    Orlando ji,

If you take to a guru, he will no doubt guide you but will also expect you to be more strict with your spiritual sadhana.

Therefore, my humble suggestion being that you do that sadhana right now and wait for results. That is, recite may be, "Om namo Narayanaya Namah" 1008 times a day, etc.

This solution is what that occurs to me. And sorry about the mahamantra suggestion, I was under the impression you are a gaudiya.

    Wishing you good luck.

    Best regards,

    Viraja

    Namaste Orlando,

I just wish to add that performing Ekadashi fasting is very purificatory. I have observed this fast for 1 full year formerly, and wish I could go back.

Even if not for the entire lifetime, one could pray for Krishna/Vishnu's mercy and observe this fast for an year or so.

By the way, observing Ekadashi vrata is also a Sri Vaishnava practice.

    Warm regards,

    Viraja
