Rig Veda list only 33 devas, they are all propitiated, worthy off our worship, all other names of gods are derivative from this 33 originals,
Bhagvat Gita; Shree Krishna says Chapter 3.11 devan bhavayatanena te deva bhavayantu vah parasparam bhavayantah sreyah param avapsyatha Chapter 17.4 yajante sattvika devan yaksa-raksamsi rajasah pretan bhuta-ganams canye yajante tamasa janah
The world disappears in him. He is the peaceful, the good, the one without a second.

I like that the video is exactly 1:08 long. I'm curious why so many of the devotees are holding kumbhas filled with flowers and offerings on their heads as they pray to Ganesha. Is this to ask for His blessings?

Vannakkam Sunyata: It would be just before the abhishekham in a 'parade'. The pots are all filled with milk, and used in the abhishekham. Its probably the simplest form of kavadi invented. We do it here one day of our festival, and its termed the milk pot festival. (What else would you call it?) One year we had over 250 pots. Usually the parade would make one circumabulation.

Vannakkam: Thank you, Aspirant. Tomorrow is the big day here ... always a nice celebration, and long. It starts at 5 with homa, and most likely will go to around 11 PM. Hopefully the weather man will co-operate with a warm evening, so the procession will be outside and around the temple. it gets chilly here this time of year.

Best wishes for a joyous celebration to all.

    EMji,

There will be a grand celebration with homa and procession around the temple at Sri Lakshmi temple too tomorrow! I used to make modakams (51 in count) for temple homa some previous years - used to give me some immense satisfaction. This year I'm planning for the simplest - make the modakams for at home celebration only - b'cos kids are on leave for Rosh Hashanah and I'm tied up making stuff for them and taking them around. 51 modaks for temple alone would take me 4 hrs!!
