Karma & Rebirth: The better way

you see a lot of "holy" men who claim to have seen God, but we know that they are just lying to you, similarly a lot of religions claim to speak for God, but once you analyse their teachings you realize that they are simply regurgitating the ideas of the times when these religions were born. For example, the earth being flat, the earth the center of the universe, battling Darwin and insisting that the earth is 5,000 years old. There is no God here, just some knowledge possessed by man living about 2,000 years ago.

Similarly, the idea that good people go to a nice place called heaven and bad people go to a bad place, call it hell. No need to ask a wise man, a 5-year old child can tell you that. Criminals are sent to jail and in some muslim countries even worse things perpetrated on "criminals". But do criminals become better people because they have been physically beaten and tortured? Sometimes they come out even worse! And certain religions think that God follows the same stupid policy? Again, no divinity here, this is what we do here on earth, so God must be doing the same thing.

To me, the idea that my Rama is inflicting physical pain on people, even if they are "bad" people is unthinkable. There has to be a better way. Amazingly a faith born thousands of years ago gives us a better, divine way. Karma and Rebirth! There is no need for Hell, no need for a torture God! Bad people, as well as good, sent back to earth to continue their path to Moksha! Some people mistakenly believe that Karma means that if we do some bad things in the previous life, in this life we suffer for it. I don't think that is right, a teacher can educate her student without making the student suffer. We constantly need to watch our actions as well as our words, follow the footsteps of God Rama. Learn from our mistakes and strive to become better people. This is why we are reborn, to learn and grow.

Not only does Karma do away with the concept of hell, but it also forces us to take responsibility. Terrorists, cults, doomsdayers are most likely to come out of King religions that do not teach Karma & rebirth. Where's the downside to a terrorist? If he is right and is following the commands of his God, then he gets his 64 virigins. But if he is wrong, all he has to do is repent, bingo, in he goes to heaven! By making it too easy to enter heaven, King religions make it easy to abdicate responsibility! But Karma does not allow you to do that, you are responsible for your actions. If you have harmed someone, it is upto you to make things right, there is no King "God" to wash away your sins.

    Pranam,
What's the point of re-incarnation if you do not suffer for doing bad actions? Isn't the Law of Karma reaping what one sowes? Why is it that so many are suffering now? Is it that the Supreme likes to experience this suffering for reasons only He/She knows?

I never got the whole "64 virgin," thing. So once you make out with them they are not virgins anymore. What then? What about females, do they also get 64 virgins? Are these "64 virgins," in some kind of physical world, or is it that there will be sex-lust in Heaven? Oh and of course you will get the same gender body as the one you blew up. None of it makes any sense.

    Namaste,

Re: Karma & Rebirth: The better way

sorry for the late reply, but this concept of punishing someone for bad actions is a human weakness. Think of a student who fails a class. Does the teacher take a cane and hit this child? Does the child learn something by being abused? This is an old concept, let's remember that in the olden days hitting a child was a common practice. Today a child is being hit less and less, instead we reason wit the child, we talk to him.

There is a better way than physical punishment, that is what I talk about when I say karma and Rebirth. The student who fails a class is given another opportunity, he is held back a year and made to repeat his class. What happens if this keeps happening? All his peers graduate and go on with their lives while this failing student remains backward. Finally as an adult he enters the working world with little education and is forced to take a menial jobs. He sees his peers in nice cushy jobs and with better prospects and finally learns his lesson.

This is what God is teaching you with Karma and Rebirth. There is no physical punishment, but knowledge is being imparted to you with great patience.
