    namaste,

    i want to read bhagvad gita but the problem is that its by many different authors.
    which one is considered as most authentic english version?

    lol .. All of them. Each author, and his promoter will tell you this. If it was by a swami, then all of that swami's follower's will tell you his was the best. So there is no 'best'. But I'm sure others may have some opinions. You could also go to Amazon.com and read reviews.

    It is a good idea to read different translations.But if you want to delve deeper sanskrit knowledge is a must.

    I have found that most of the translations are heavily coloured by the translator's biases. The best course is to understand the Samskrit version. However, if you understand Hindi, the basic translation version (without any commentary etc.) published by Gita Press, Gorakhpur is good one (though at some places it is also affected by translator's bias) & at some places it becomes really difficult to get the real meaning.
