Re: A Personal Library of Hindu Sanskrit Texts Translations
namaste Satay.
I have since mailed the HinduTexts.rar file to Amith, obtaining his email id through his PM to me.
I thank you for your offer of hosting our Library in the free Website you referred to, but I doubt if they would accommodate document storage of the size of nearly 40 GB! Further, there might be copyright issues if we resort to store documents. Therefore, my suggestion as to the Library is that as and when you find time, you may mail the HinduTexts.rar file to all our members, in batches, starting with the senior members, since you have the email ids of everyone.
However, I have some ideas as to how we can put that free Website to some good use, if they could give us some (MySQL) databases and php programming facilities. We have so much of useful material in HDF, interspersed with debate in most cases. We might cull out the traditional knowledge members posted here and consolidate them under convenient reference headings in that free Website. For this purpose, we might first ask the members themselves to collect the traditional knowledge in their postings (giving sources for all quotes and opinions), classify them under pre-determined headers, and post that knowledge first in a thread in HDF. After suitable scrutiny, these can be moved to the new, reference Website.
I have some other ideas of some of us working collectively to create an interactive (but nor forum type interaction) Website that could be useful for our learning about our Sanatana Dharma at different levels: children, youth, novices, sAdhakas and pandits.
As part of this knowledge we might also have a Question Bank and run a Personal Quiz, which is not competitive, but would serve to enhance a member's personal knowledge using scores for right answers and calculation of a Personal Knowledge Quotient. Each member would optionally take a quiz of randomly asked questions, whenever he/she feels like, answer, say some 10 questions in 10-minute sessions, and accumulate scores for right answers. The questions once answered will be remembered and won't reappear for that member. The number of questions in the Question Bank will keep on increasing as we add questions, and the quiz-taking member will have a moving target to chase and catch. We can have a team of members with good knowledge about our religion, to prepare the post the questions to the QB, with a core team that approves them.
I shall collect my ideas and thoughts, workout something and submit it for your consideration as soon as I can. Meantime, if this idea appeals to you, you might think about finding a suitable host and service--free or paid. If it is paid (which would be better), some of us might share the cost. I shall work out something after getting your approval of the idea (perhaps in consultation with other members).

Do you want me to find out more about the free account? I don't mind putting it to good use if it is possible to work out the logistics of separate account management etc. I will look into this...

To her whose feet are washed by the ocean, who wears the Himalayas as her crown, and is adorned with the gems of rishis and kings, to Mother India, do I bow down in respect.
