I was at Uchi Pillaiyar in Trichy, and Pillairaypatti in Tamil Nadu. They are both famous Ganesha temples in Tamil Nadu. I was actually told that one in Salem is richer than either of these two. Which temple to Ganesha is the most famous would be debatable, I think. People might be biased. But I can tell you a bit about any of these three.

Shian: Obviously, first you have to get to India. The temple Satay mentioned is in the far north,and the ones I mentioned are in the far South. It is 2 to 3 days by train. But yes, PM me (or Satay, if its okay with him) for travel info.
There are many ways to get around India, depending on your likes, dislikes, etc. A great question and answer discussion travel forum on here for India travel is Indiamike.com . It's exciting to plan a yatra, near or far. For simpler yatras, you can select a temple here in America, and go there. But its not the same as India.
