Why are Hindus so Uncomfortable with Themselves?

Or is it that Hinduism is just a very complex religion which requires an immense amount of studying and research to get even a little grasp of? ...

Re: Why are Hindus so Uncomfortable with Themselves? - ChakraNews.com (blog)

The picture...pains me. The thought of my own child being corrupted in such a way gives me much fear.

My oldest son(the atheist) he has come around so much. He had to choose a country to show to the class and picked India. They did the whole thing about the culture encased in Santana Dharma.

The whole class heard for the first time that Hindu are NOT pagan. The class listened...asked questions. He spoke of the ancient truth....that Hindu are moral good people with very high values. It was beautiful. A whole class of Anglo American children were given the truth yesterday!

Only one child refused to hear his presentation...a girl who stood up and told him that our whole family was going to hell. To which he replied...."I'm an Atheist....so the chances of my family burning in hell, are equal to you being born a dog in your next life, for being such an ignorant animal in this lifetime."

Always the joker, she wasn't offended...of course, she knows hell waits for him. Even his supposedly "educated" teacher told the class during studies on India that Siva was an "angry female goddess" which upset my son so much he had an outburst and said "You play too many video games, Siva is not male or female in reality...but male most of the time in my home." His teacher yelled at him for this...I can not understand how a teacher could be allowed to spread such ignorance.

In my heart I pray each day that there would be more dialog about the truth of Hinduism in America to the Anglo.... more volunteers going to school to speak on this. I am unfit...will never do. But true Hindu, with a lifetime of emersion into the knowledge, could change hearts, and perhaps do more than that. Plant a seed of enlightenment into the dog's heart<3

But, at least yesterday, a child did change the minds of one simple classroom..and from that classroom may bloom more tolerance..and less proselytizing. It's my heart's wish.

Even a small army, if well-entrenched, can repel
the power of a large army, forcing it to retreat.

I too find that a rather disturbing picture. The thought of an innocent child being corrupted with the immorality of Christianity, with its intolerance and proclamations of damnation, is quite troubling. If you ask me, Christianity should be kept in the "adults only" part of society.

I wouldn't go that far when speaking of christianity, I've known plenty of good, tolerant christians who don't proselytize or anything like that yet still genuinely love christ and their faith, but it does need a lot of reform, and in India it definitely does more harm than good.

To clarify, I don't mean to say that all people who call themselves Christians are bad people. In fact some of the best people I know call themselves Christians. But ask yourself this: if you ("you" in the general sense) call yourself a Christian and tolerate other religions, do not proselytize, and hold to the view that non-Christians won't burn in hell for not converting, then how good of a Christian are you? The Bible says that other religions are inspired by demons, that those of us who practice Hinduism are idolaters who are going to hell, and that Christians ought to proselytize. Christians who do not hold to these doctrines are being good people at the expense of being bad Christians.

To be sure, I find this inconsistent behavior to be perfectly acceptable. I think that well-behaved Christians are claiming to believe in the Bible but believing differently. But unlike evangelicals, I don't think that consistency of expressed belief and actual practice is a virtue in its own right, so I am fine with these kinds of Christians. However, let's not kid ourselves: the Bible contains a few good teachings (which can be found in other religions), and a lot of horrific teachings. It encourages religious conversion, and therefore discourages family values. Christians can be great people, but we don't have the Bible to thank for that.

Angry Re: Why are Hindus so Uncomfortable with Themselves? - ChakraNews.com (blog)

    SIMPLE......
    BECAUSE..........
MOST HINDUS DON'T KNOW WHAT HINDUISM ACTUALLY IS!!!!!!

    Reasons?
1.) Poverty and Politics of hindu nations darn it!
2.) Most hindus consider hinduism polytheism.
3.) Hindus do not know of any spiritual scriptures(like bhagvat geeta, vedas, philosophies, ramayan, mahabharat), and are not interested in learning about them and consider them fairy tales!!! Boooooo!! They don't read and analyse. Nor do they do atma vimarsha (self study, through nature and themselves, learning about god, without reading any scriptures). They are just not interested. When all goes wrong, what do they do?! Blame it on hinduism. Thus giving a chance to let themselves get attracted into another religion, or sucked in to believe that god does not exist.
4.) Everyone is soo materialistic.... If you ask them, they give a flying answer: Life is like an ice cream, enjoy it before it melts. well no... Its more like a chance in this whole chess game to win by giving the world of maya, a checkmate.
5.) Adults themselves don't know things properly, my grandmother, until a few days ago thought there were around 3 crore gods, until I explained that there is only one god. If a kid such as me asks a doubt on spirituality, how many adults are willing to answer? Mostly none, because, they're not well versed themselves. How will a tree give shelter to others if it cant stand on its own roots?
6.) We see young muslim children reading out the verses of Quran. How many Hindu adults know of Bhagwad Geeta or Ramayan or Mahabharata or Vedas or Puranas or Itihasas..... All we study are the DAMN DICTATED BRITISH ITIHASAS IN SCHOOLS!! Where are the classic hindu ideas and itihasas?
7.) Even though some people don't believe hinduism, they call themselves hindus just because they are born hindus, and keep attacking hinduism.
I wish to ask such people If you don't believe in Hinduism educate yourselves about it, there are a lot of great people who can help you. If you don't want that, fine, just don't attack hinduism by manipulating and giving non-hindu ideas as hindu ideas and stop criticizing. If you have interest over other religions, just get converted sheesh!
8.) Anti Hindu media, politics. I'd like to the M.F Hussain issue. Media asked him to stay in India after hurting hindu hearts, just because he belongs to the minor section, how can they forget what he had done, he didn't even have the courtesy to apologise. If any Hindu attacks other religions, he'd be severely punished, that punishment is good, not wrong, its not good to hurt others' feelings, but what if someone else does on same on hinduism? he is left free like a free dove.

How do stop all of this? This is in our hands, start afresh educate us youngsters, or you will lose us completely. Not all youngsters are interested in spirituality on their own. Very very very rare cases. We have to change, we have to get the power. We have to gain knowledge and elevate ourselves to the grade of the three great acharyas.

There always is a silver lining to every dark cloud.

I don't know what I need to know.
I don't know who you are, nor what you are.

You know such teachers are there in India too, in thousands!!!
Christianity and Islam aren't bad, its just that some, if not all Christians and Muslims are bad and keep attacking and so are the so called hindus. Some so called Hindus are worse than the outsiders. Its nice to see that a foreign family can understand what the Indian Hindu families fail to understand. This also upsets me at the same time. It is true what you said, a small burning candle can repel darkness even though its night.
