Thread: Hello! Glad to be here

  1. Hello! Glad to be here

    Hello everyone!

I'm new to the forums, and my purpose for being here is actually to help a friend of mine. She had a small (approximately 6 inches / 15 cm) sculpture given to her as a gift many years ago, and because of a very excitable puppy it was broken this last weekend.

We both know very little about the sculpture. It was a gift purchased outside of the country and the design seems Hindu in origin, though we're not even certain of that much. We'd like to find a replacement but despite our best efforts we haven't been able to figure out what we're looking for.

I'm hoping that by asking for help here and posting a picture of the sculpture we'll be able to find a replacement or at least know a little more about the origin of the piece and what it was depicting.

Thank you all very much for any information you can offer.

Your scupture looks more Chinese than Indian to me, but I could easily be wrong. I have never seen anything quite like it in Indian mythology with the three heads on top of each other. best wishes in your search.

Others may be able to help. Perhaps Shian knows.

probably a buddhist sculpture .........tibetan buddhism to be specific .

though the tibetan art borrows heavily from indian art !

    Namaste ThirdArden,

I'm sorry, but I don't recognize that sculpture. I agree with sambyaji that it is probably a Buddhist sculpture. I'm not positive, though.

Well, I appreciate the effort. I'll keep searching with the suggestions you all made and will hopefully find what I'm looking for.

Shukriya. Thank you very much for your help.
