    Namaste Darji,

Which guy? Rajan Zed?!? Of course it's him! He's an acclaimed Hindu statesman!!

Seriously though, it is a good thing to see Hindu prayers being recited at an event like that. However, it would be good to see somebody else reciting the prayers for once. Surely there are other acclaimed Hindu leaders who would love to do so.

Yes but I guess they need a better PR department :P

Yes it is good that prayers are offered at these events, but I'm afraid that it's for all the wrong reasons! Zed wants to offer prayers to get his name in the paper, and the politicians want it as it shows they are "with the Indian community" it's fake and it's just for votes. It sickens me.

If you think this is bad look at that Headline, every rational human being abhors the Vatican and the pedophile priesthood and the bigoted Ratzinger for their crimes, except the Catholics and surprise the Hindus.

    Hindus have praised the Vatican

Hindus have praised the Vatican and Pope Benedict for finishing the installation of its 2400-panel solar photovoltaic array, a move that will cut its carbon monoxide emissions by about 225 tons and save the equivalent of 80 tons of oil each year.

Acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, applauded His Holiness Pope Benedictus XVI Joseph A. Ratzinger in a statement, for this “environment friendly move and frequent calls to save the planet and curb environmental degradation.”

    Vannakkam:

I did write to one of the newspapers that printed the story on the statues, and left an on-line comment basically saying that Hinduism is vast and I didn't agree with the complaint. I also expressed the idea that you-know-who doesn't speak for all Hindus.

I also sent an email to Sacred Source saying he doesn't speak for all Hindus, and I personally had no problem with the statues in question, yet I wouldn't purchase one for myself. They are made in India, and several other outlets sell them. They actually responded with an appreciation note that it means a lot.

It is an injustice to our vast faith to have the lazy press get the viewpoint of one man who most likely doesn't even know his own sampradaya. It portrays Hinduism as being a simple one minded religion, and the dew concepts that do come up get stuck in the average westerners mind.

Real legitimate press go for more views. I remember the Edmonton Journal (my local paper) coverage of the 'Ganesha statue' issue back here. They at least sought out several Hindus to make statements, and there was a variety. When our own Hinduism Today does a story on a controversial topic such as abortion, they will interview 10 or more swamis from various traditions to get a better all-around story.

Even the pope doesn't speak for many lay Catholics. They may talk the talk on such things as birth control, but then they just go ahead and use their own common sense. This is obvious because we don't see those 15 children to a family situations any more, except in 99% Catholic nations like Dominican Republic where condoms or the pill aren't even made available easily. So there Catholicism is a major contributor to poverty.

I urge others here to email editors etc. to balance out Mr. Zed's points of view. Another problem is that it seems he likes to deal with the less important but more 'of the famous' issues, like Hollywood, and opening legislatures.

    Namaste Eastern Mindji,

I will do so from now on. I don't want non-Hindus to get the wrong impression that this "acclaimed Hindu statesman" speaks for all Hindus, or that he is the Hindu pope or something. It is almost impossible to speak for all Hindus. Only in single-minded dogmatic faiths is it possible to do so.
