Giant statue of Lord Hanuman: Jakhoo Hill, Himachal

New Lord Hanuman Moorthy at Jakhoo Hill, Himachal unveiled
    (Nov 4, 2010)

Jakhoo Hill Murti has height of 108 feet at the highest altitude of over 8100 feet and is constructed at a cost of Rs 10.5 million.

Jakhoo Hill is associated with Lord Hanuman, who had set out in search for the elusive Sanjeevani Booti, for treating a wounded Lord Laxman while the battle for Lanka was being raged.

Local legends hold that after the Lord failed to find the lifesaving herb, and carried the whole hill and enroute to Lanka, the Monkey God is said to have rested atop Jakhoo for awhile.

The project was completed in record time after the foundation was laid on ‘Hanuman Jayanti’ two years ago. Weighing 1500 tons, the sculpture had been made by Naresh Kumar, a renowned sculptor.

The 108-foot-high statue of Hanuman at the famous Jakhu temple is built by JHS Svendgaard Laboratories, India's largest oral care products manufacturers, and the HC Nanda Trust.

Vannakkam: Nice! He'd look good beside this one.

On an esoteric note, Hanuman is responsible for moving things, so I think this is entirely appropriate in this day and age when consciousness is shifting, people are shifting, and even temple supplies and stones are being sent out from India. I'm sure he is an inner plane mahadeva or has devas working for him helping out in this regard.

    Jai Hanuman

    Interesting...

I think I'll move from just listening to the Hanuman Chaleesa to actually chanting and understanding its meaning.

    Namaste,

I read about the statue a couple of days ago in HPI, but I didn't imagine it would be so big! Truly wonderful!

    Jai Hanuman!

    Great! Looks fantastic!

And that choice of 108 feet is no coincidence either!

Wow. That's one impressive figure of Lord Hanuman! I wonder what it's made out of that it looks so expressive.

    Thanks for sharing, Brahman.
