Believer, I think I miss the point of the sinking.

At least indians have Hanuman Chalisa on TV...

Pietro, something sacred has been turned into a Bollywood type song and dance number. You don't see a picture or a murti of Hanumanji throughout the video. The video is more about the actors/singers/dancers than about Shri Hanuman. That is what is sad about it. A bhajan/aarti/pooja being turned into a show biz item is just not the right thing to do. Maybe I am too sensitive to such issues.

So you rather have shows like corny romance soap operas and every other type of content devoid of any concept of spirituality? That's what I have here.

Either that or crazy evangelical preaching shows... Which I usually watch for some minutes to get a laugh from time to time.

Spiritual things can be incorporated into mainstream items in a dignified way with due reverence shown to the deities. But converting something into a song and dance number with glitzy light and shade effects and the focus being on dancers and singers with no murthi, no picture is what I felt let down by.
And I don't feel good about the inclusion of spiritual things in lusty/steamy/corny soap operas, that you speak of. If you don't draw the line, then someday you might find the deity pictures stamped on condoms too!

    Namaste Believer,

If I can be honest, after seeing the video, I didn't think the number was as glamorous as I had imagined it. Kinda staid compared to other Bollywood musical numbers I've seen before, actually! A lack of murti or devotional imagery is not necessarily indicative of lack of respect for the devas, but this is my opinion. And I'm sort of with Pietro on this, better to hear Hanuman's and Sri Rama's names than not at all!

Whether you liked the rendition of the chalisa and the singer's performance, however, is another matter.

    Om namah Shivaya

Watch your words, they become actions.
Watch your actions, they become habits.
Watch your habits, they become your character.
Watch your character, it becomes your destiny."

    ॐ गं गणपतये नमः
    Om Gam Ganapataye namah

    Thanks Sunyata/Pietro,

I guess I should change my thinking to be more in line with what is currently acceptable to the youth of today. So, I stand corrected - it is an acceptable video.

    Namaste Believer,

I agree with Pietro and Sunyata, although I do understand why you originally felt the way you did. A picture or a murti of Lord Hanuman would have definitely made the whole thing seem more legitimate and traditional, but I don't think the absence of one is that huge of a deal. Sure, there were some people who focused more on the dancing and dancers and the glitzy aspect of it than the actual chalisa itself toward Lord Hanuman, but there still seemed to be some real bhakti. And in this day in age, that is better than nothing.

Now with all that said, I would still prefer this version to the one we are discussing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKKSurfd6Ys

    Jai Hanuman

    Hari Om!

Although the video is the same as the post above, what I would really like to point out is the translation. Perhaps I've just never taken the time to read it or have never seen the words in this form, but it is especially meaningful to me, to the point of, well, tears. Please take a moment to read the translation below the video. I hope that you find it as beneficial, beautiful and inspiring as I do. I have now vowed to memorize the Hanuman Chalisa in its original form.

    Jai Hanuman!

    Namasté Believer

    mAyA will as she must.

I find from my observation of Western cultural change; that there is a marked effect of the Tele and media on spiritual varna. The smaller more local events and practise decrease with the increase of "TV worship" which then becomes the talking point of the town and its biggest influence.

The TV in Britain; to my mind is a God on an shrine in nearly every house hold; it is used to worship materialism through an incessant bombardment of advertising and blatant propaganda.

India has such a different culture. I can only hope that her cultural wealth is strong enough to support mans' penchant for greed.

Debatable as having the greatest influence in the demise of the family unit. Or more to the point being the tool for said demise.

mAyA will as she must and you cannot stop the tide.

Thank you for pointing to the translation, c.smith. It is as you have wisely said, beneficial, beautiful and very Inspiring.
