    RAMAYAN
    -------------

    RAMAYAN is one of our historic Dharma Granth. Researches on Ramayana are still in progress, but still there are many references which clearly state that Ramayana bears historical testimony which bears testimony to various legends prevalent around the world.

    For those who are questioning existence of Sri Ram, let them first justify whether their forefathers ever existed or they themselves exist or the modern world exist by using the same yardstick which they are using for denying the existence of Ram.

    A scientific research of an ancient civilization and historic events needs to gather the common, credible, core data to analyse and appreciate the historicity, for this scanning through the variety of versions and adaptations is necessary.

    Ironical many writers have accepted that Alexander invaded India without any historical evidence, and accepted 236 BC as the decided date for Indian History, it made that those event happened years before and after Alexander’s invasion, on the other hand they go on to deny existence of Ram despite many conclusive proof are there to prove historicity of Ramayana.

    There are various examples where word Ram or misnomer of Ram has been used as suffix or prefix with the names of various historical places and persons. None of the historical evidence provides conclusive answer to these facts unless we take Ramayan historical evidences into account.

    Barbaric Adharms like Christianity and Islam have targeted historical data and buildings because history does not confer their beliefs. If these two maha adharms have not gained popularity, than there could be more data to prove our point conclusively.

    Nobody believed that Homer's Iliad, or Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar was a true story till Troy and Roman art and drains were discovered after extensive archaeology. Unfortunately we have politically vote bank correct politicians and paid media which do not want to accept the truth about Ramayana and challenge adharm groups.

    Those who are illogically biased may still refute the existence of Ram while those who are logical, will treat Ram from wider historical evidences.

    I'm afraid I don't know much about the controversy. I do believe that the Ramayana depicts authentic history. I suppose the reason for any disbelief in this position is that the events in Ramayana took place in the earliest periods of recorded history.

    Modern history doesn't go as far back as our itihasas. It's all pre-historical.

    Re: RAMAYAN

    Yes, this is true. Indian civilization is a fair bit older than most, so it isn't surprising that our historical records are the oldest. Ultimately though, I wonder how much it matters that we "prove" the historicity of the Ramayana or Mahabharata. On the one hand, historicity is important in the Western mindset, and demonstrating the historicity of our Scriptures will gain further respect for Indian culture in the West. On the other hand, historicity is spiritually unimportant to us for the most part, so from a religious point of view it doesn't matter all that much.

    AUTHOR FOR RAMAYAN
    The Authentic Text

    Maharshi Valmiki is known as the original Author of Ramayan, we have various adaptations of Valmiki Ramayan, and many others which are not the translation of Valmiki Ramayan either.

    After Ram, Hanumanji went to the Himalayas to continue his worship of Ram. There he scripted a version of the Ramayan using his nails, recording every detail of Ram's deeds, which is called the Hanumad Ramayan. When Maharishi Valmiki visited him to show his own version of the Ramayana, he said his version was no match for the splendour of Hanuman's. At this, Hanumanji discarded his own version. Maharishi Valmiki was so taken aback that he said he would take another birth to sing the glory of Hanuman which he had understated in his version.

    Kalidas’ Raghuvamsham is a Sanskrit text. It is said that one tablet of Hanumad Ramayan have floated ashore during the period of Kalidas, and hung at a public place to be deciphered by scholars. Kalidas is said to have deciphered it and recognised that it was from the Hanumad Ramayana recorded by Hanuman in an extinct script.

    Raghuvansham is based from Raghu to the last king of the dynasty Brihadbala who was killed in the Mahabharat War. The Raghuvansham ends rather abruptly, this suggests that either it was left unfinished or the final portion was lost early. Kalidas was the leader of King Vikramaditya's Gems; Vikramaditya founded the Vikram era that started on 58 BC, so Kalidas' time is before the Christian time. Kalidas also have accepted that Ram was Avatar of Vishnu.

    Bhas of Trivandrum, Kerala wrote 13 dramas, out of them two - Pratima and Abhishek are taken from Ramayan. Kalidas in Malvikagnimitram has mentioned Bhas, that means Bhas' time was before Kalidas' time. Bhas have accepted that Ram was Avtar of Vishnu.

    Kamban’s Ramayan is Tamil Epic It is said to be written by Ganesh in one night on the prarthna of Kamban, it have 11,000 shalokas.

    Parmar Emperor Raja Bhoj's Champu Ramayan is also important; Raja Bhoj achieved many scientific invasions by the help of Ramayana’s guide. His Khanda Prashasti in Dharanagri are drenched inscribed stones from Ramsetu itself that is collected by the orders of Bhoj, those verses are composed by Hanuman/ Nala or many. This act was responsible for the destruction of Bhoj.

    Naresh Kumar Dhatusena / Kumardas' Jankiharan in have 20 cantos, Kumardas was the King of Sri Lanka and have inspired by Kalidas. He has given more importance to Kshatriya Dharm. This is the oldest Sanskrit literature available in Srilanka.

    Some other important works are-

    King Pravarsen II's Setubandh;

    Tulsidas’ Ramcharit Manas;

    Bhavbhuti's Mahavir Charit and UttarRamcharit;

    Kshemendra's Ramayan Manjri and Dashavtarcharitam that have Rămavatăra;

    Jaidev's Prasannarăghavam;

    Atukuri Molla' Mollamamba;

    Abhinand's Ramcharit;

    Murari's Anargharaghava etc.

    These are only few examples, there is not a single important writer or author in the history who has not written on Ramayan, and everyone accept that Ram was Bhagwan.

    TIME OF RAM

    Ancient History has gone through a long process of interpolations and redactions, making it impossible to date accurately of many events, but we still have lot with us to recreate correct chronological data of world history.

    The fact is that, Ram was born during the latter part of traita. There are 1000 Treta-yugas in one day of Brahma, and it is calculated that we are presently in the 28th cycle of the four yugas (called divya-yugas, which is a cycle of the four yugas, Satyug, Treating, Dvaparyuga, and then Kaliyuga) of Vaivasvata Manu, who is the seventh Manu in the series of 14 Manu rulers who exist in one kalpa or day of Brahma. Each Manu is considered to live for 71 such divya-yuga cycles.

    Bhagavata Purana clearly states that Lord Rama became king during Treta Yuga (Bhag. 9.10.51).

    We have been in Kali-yuga, before this was Dvapara-yuga which lasts 864,000 years. Before that was Treta-yuga, which lasts 1,296,000 years. Thus, according to this, the existence of Lord Ram had to have been millions of years ago.

    Hence, if we assume that Ram was born in the present chaturyugi then it means he was born at least 10, 00,000 years ago. And if Lord Ram appeared in one of the previous Treta-yugas, it would certainly indicate that Lord Ram appeared several million years ago. This is exactly what is corroborated in the Vayu Purana and Matsya Purana.

    Vayu Purana (70.47-48) tretayuge chaturvinshe ravanastapasah kshayat
    ramam dasharathim prapya saganah kshayamiyavan
    Ravan’s merit of penance began to decline; he met Ram, the son of Dasarath, in a battle wherein Ravan and his followers were killed in the 24th Treta-yuga.
    Matsya Purana (47/240,243-246) also says Bhagawan Ram appeared at the end of the 24th Treta-yuga.

    If we take the chronological period of Ramayana provided by Vayu and Matsya Puranas into consideration then period of Rama goes to at least 1, 80, 00,000 years back.

    This view is also supported by the fact that in Valmiki Ramayana, Sundara-Kanda (or Book 5), Chapter 27, verses12, an ogress named Trijata has a dream of Lord Rama, which she describes to the other demoniac ogresses upon awakening. In that dream she sees Rama, scion of Raghu, united again with Sita. Sri Rama was mounted on a huge elephant, closely resembling a hill, with four tusks. And in Chapter 4, verse 27 when Hanuman went to Lanka in search of Sita, there he saw elephants having four tusks. According to archaeologist/biologist ascertain four-tusked elephants were known as Mastodontoidea, which are said to have evolved around 38 million years ago and became extinct about 15 million years ago when the shaggy and two tusked Mastodons increased in population.

    NASA’s discovery of Ramsetu also proves that it was not natural made and was constructed 1.8 to18 million years ago, and it is situated at the same place where Ram constructed it with the Help of Nal.

    From the 24th Treta-yuga to the present age of this 28th cycle of Kali-yuga, there is obviously a difference of millions of years when Lord Ram manifested here on earth.
    So, without getting too complicated about time, we can easily conclude that period of Rama is at least 10, 00,000 years to 1, 80, 00,000 years.

    RAM BHAKTI

    The evolution of the tradition of Ram worship is from the time of Ramayan. Modern anti Hindus writer’s claims that Ram was never worshipped in history, Ram become popular after Islamic invasion and belief in Ram was made popular by Hindu sects later. But neutral historic research proves that those anti Hindus are liars. We still have much proof left that proves Ram was worshipped earlier also.

    All important ancient authors have also stated that Ram was Bhagwan.
    The Padmasamhita, a Vaishnav text dating before 1000 A.D clearly says that Ram was worshipped as Avatar of Vishnu.

    We do not find much Ram Bhakti proofs in monuments because Muslims destroyed many ancient Mandir to build Masjid, just like in Ayodhya three Ram temples Vishnuhari at the Chakratirtha ghat, Dharmahari on the east side of Swargadwar ghat, and Vishnu (Ram) temple on the Janmabhoomi were been replaced on all accounts by mosques built by Mughal emperors. But many monuments still survived.

    An inscription of 467 A.D. testifies to the installation by a devotee of the image of Chitrakutsavami-Anantashayi referring to both Ram & Vishnu.

    Rama shrines surviving at ancient Ramgiri hill (modern Ramtek) 30 kms from Nagpur, dedicated by the Vakataka queen Prabhawatigupta (Daughter of Chandragupta II) during pre Islamic Gupta era.

    Gwalior inscription of the Gurjar Pratihar king Mihirbhoja in the 9th century described Ram as an incarnation of Vishnu. Muslim writers had also dubbed Mihirbhoja as the biggest enemy of Islam, Islam was not ruling in India during Mihirbhoja's era.

    So it is clear that Bhagwan Ram was always worshipped.
