    Shishupal would certainly say so.

There is a story in which Yudhisthira invited many royal officials to court. Shishupala (son of the King of Chedi) was invited as well. Now Krishna had carried off his betrothed, Rukmini, and married her, all at her own request. Apparently she didn't want very much to be Shishupala's wife. So when Shishupala saw Krishna, he began insulting him. Lord Krishna endured 99 insults without lifting a finger. On the 100th insult, he beheaded Shishupala with his Sudarshan Chakra.

PS: Is the man with fur clothes and an axe in the painting a reference to Parashurama?

Yeah, chronologically I was almost completely certain it wasn't plausible, I was just wondering if there was a special appearance of him in the Mahabharata or if it was just a homage by the painter. Thanks for the information.

Shishupal had no cause to complain.

Lord krishna had promised his aunt younger sister off Kunti who knew that her son who was born unusual would be killed by Krishna. she had got promised from him that he would tolerate 100 insult from him. so it was after that he Killed him. Shishupal was in his third birth of Jay and Vijay curse.

Facts about Parsuram, he is one off the 7 chiranjeevi's, although appeared in Tretyayug, he certainly was there in Dwapar yuga also. Both BhismaPita and Karan learnt their Dhanur Vidhya from him.

Retribution = requital according to merits or demerits, especially for evil

Wrath = strong, stern, or fierce anger; deeply resentful indignation; ire.

I wonder if it was Wrath that Krishna struck out in or just plain Retribution.. Retribution can be without hate or anger.

    Re: Wrathful Krishna?

    Namaste

KrushNa has a quality called "dhiroddhata" among other uncountable qualities, which He uses for the right spiritual purpose such as to protect His devotees and annhiliate evil.

Four aspects of KrushNa's Personality from Nectar of Devotion, commentary on Rupa GoswAmi's Bhakti RasAmrut Sindhu by Shrila PRabhupAd (A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami) :

    http://nectarofdevotion.com/23/en

    Chapter 23: Kṛṣṇa's Personality

Kṛṣṇa's personality is analyzed as dhīrodātta, dhīra-lalita, dhīra-praśānta and dhīroddhata. If one asks how a personality can be beheld in four quite opposing ways, the answer is that the Lord is the reservoir of all transcendental qualities and activities. Therefore, His different aspects can be analyzed according to the exhibition of His limitless variety of pastimes, and as such there is no contradiction.

Dhīrodātta: naturally very grave, gentle, forgiving, merciful, determined, humble, highly qualified, chivalrous and physically attractive. - seen in Indra's apologetic prayer on lifting Govardhan.

Dhīra-lalita: naturally very funny, always in full youthfulness, expert in joking and free from all anxieties. - e.g. submissiveness to Radha, gopis, queens

Dhīra-praśānta: A person who is very peaceful, forbearing, considerate and obliging is called dhīra-praśānta. e.g. while dealing w/ Pandavs

***Dhīroddhata : A person who is very envious, proud, easily angered, restless and complacent is called dhīroddhata by learned scholars. Such qualities were visible in the character of Lord Kṛṣṇa, because when He was writing a letter to Kālayavana, Kṛṣṇa addressed him as a sinful frog. In His letter Kṛṣṇa advised Kālayavana that he should immediately go and find some dark well for his residence, because there was a black snake named Kṛṣṇa who was very eager to devour all such sinful frogs. Kṛṣṇa reminded Kālayavana that He could turn all the universes to ashes simply by looking at them.
The above statement by Kṛṣṇa seems apparently to be of an envious nature, but according to different pastimes, places and times this quality is accepted as a great characteristic. Kṛṣṇa's dhīroddhata qualities have been accepted as great because Kṛṣṇa uses them only to protect His devotees. In other words, even undesirable traits may also be used in the exchange of devotional service.

Sometimes Bhīma, the second brother of the Pāṇḍavas, is also described as dhīroddhata.
Since KrushNa is the Supreme Personality of God, all qualities are in Him, and He is never limited. He is pAraBrahman, complete Brahman. This is our definition of KrushNa - not just a human image playing flute.

This is also evident from Bhishma's description of KRshNa to Yudhishthir in VishNusahasranama - one of the 1000 name is shabdAtiga which is explained as "He is indescribable, beyond description via words."
