Hey all,

Here's a quick question I had been pondering for quite some time now. If you are not already aware, Ganga ma is not only a goddess but the embodiment of the Ganges river. The story is that Ganga ma came cascading down from the mountain tops (some texts say her original source is actually heaven) but the force of her landing would have destroyed the earth, so thinking of his feet Shiva caught her in the locks of his hair. This is why in most depictions of Shiva you can see Ganga ma's face and water flourishing from his head.

My question is, does this make Shiva and Ganga ma interconnected in some way? What relevance does this actually have to lord Shiva? I feel like the importance of this tale has been undermined some how, or not explained well enough. Do any of you happen to know the moral of the story or am I missing something here?

Namaste,
Forrest
