I have the Disability of Schizophrenia and I'm curious if Dhanvantari could help.
What kind of practices does one do? Is there a specific mantra and sadhana?

I think it's best to seek professional help from psychiatrists, but also from ayurvedic doctors or yoga therapists if you want.
You can pray to dhanvantari for mental health. I do not know any details of dhanvantari worship.
Here's a recitation of dhanvantari mantra:

Namast,
Tirisilex, I too know very little about Dhanvantari. I did look for information on healing practices a few weeks ago, though, and came across this:

It's the section on Amrit Prayog, at the top. Sharad (or Ashvin) Purnima falls on October 11th this year, for those of us in the West.

I'm sure yoga is the healing of the mind. You can read books about the ayurvedic nature of mind. David Frawley has a book on this subject: http://www.amazon.com/Ayurveda-Mind-...1684859&sr=8-1
You can get a good dhanvantari statue if you want to worship him from this site: http://malola-trade.net/deities-murt...i-c-22_81.html
Namaste,
As has been expressed by others I do think you should seek help from experts in Ayurveda. They will be naturally reliant on Prasna (enquiry). [Traditionally this would include the time of the enquiry].
Link to one of many:

I suggest you contact above (or one equivalent to the above) by email and seek advice.
Pranam
