    Raksha Bandhan 2011 - Don't forget Sister!!!

    Hari Om!

Not that anyone would, but don't forget to take a moment to send a little something special to sister this year! A simple e-card, a phone call, a positive thought - it doesn't have to be the expensive store bought commercialism that's being propagated if that's not your thing. But let sis know that you CARE and that your bond is strong, that you're there for her - that you love her as only a brother could!

Sorry if it comes off as preaching, but I got caught up in the sentiment as I was putting the finishing touches on some last minute details of this years gifts. This year I gave more in words than I gave in material goods and I feel really good about it. I feel like I've actually given a part of myself instead of just given something from "me". Maybe I'm finally coming to understand some of the full comprehension of "Happy Raksha Bandhan".

All this blabbering aside, may you have a very Blessed and Happy Rakhi Day!

    Namaste Seeker Smith,
Thank you so much for your blabbering. I was not hip to this at all. Your post led me to reseraching this. Thank you so much. The timing of your post is perfect. I shall study significance further yet but what I have read thus far is SD!
Thank you very much. You and your sister have a wonderful day. Thank you for brightening my day.

Re: Raksha Bandhan 2011 - Don't forget Sister!!!

    namaste everyone.

Inasmuch as a Hindu exhorted to consider every woman other than his wife as a sister/mother/daughter, I hereby send through HDF to all our sisters here, a "Do well, be spiritual" wish and greetings, assuring them that their faith in God will protect and guide them through life.

Interestingly, in the Wiki article on rakShA-bandhan at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raksha_Bandhan, it is mentioned that King Alexander's wife sent a sacred thread to King Puru(Shottama) requesting him not to harm her husband in battle. King Puru saw the thread in his wrist when he was about to deliver a final blow to Alexander and restrined himself from doing it. Typically, historians ignore this incident and present it as if King Puru was defeated by Alexander but in spite of that the latter King treated his captured enemy well!

To her whose feet are washed by the ocean, who wears the Himalayas as her crown, and is adorned with the gems of rishis and kings, to Mother India, do I bow down in respect.

RakshaBandhan, RAkhi Purnima also happens to be BalarAm Purnima , BalarAm Jayanti - appearance day of Lord BalarAm.

    How subtle.

BalarAm is SankarshaN - one of the chaturvyuha expansions of Shri Hari (vAsudev sahkarshaN pradyumna aniruddha), who is Ananta Shesha - the 1000 hooded One who serves as rest bed of MahAVishNu.

He is saNkarshaN because when Devaki was pregnant with Him, He was taken away into (transfered to, attracted to) RohiNi's womb (Shrimad Bhagvatam).

    Namast,

A joyous Rakhi to all...and a quick note that I found this morning about the auspicious timing of this Rakhi in particular.

    Namaste,

Rakhi is a great, uniquely Hindu holiday. I don't have any sisters, but it's always joyous every year when my father's sisters send him rakhis. May everybody have a happy and blessed Rakhi.
