    number of species

    here is an article in Times magazine. researcher have now predicted that there are around 8.8 millions of species on this earth.
    Our rishies estimated for sure that there are 8.4 millions
    West have to take so many centuries and are still out by 0.4 million, so far they have found only 1.9 million.

    Just wondering, is there a written record in Scriptures of the rishis' estimate? I'd very much like to know how they worded this.

    Must be in many puranas. 84 lakhs (8.4 million) yonis before one takes the human form.
