Welcome to HDF! Nice to read your views, you actually explained it quite well I think.
As far as I know, there isn't any one definitive view of what Sanatana Dharma says on something, because it is a diverse path with many different sects. However, the two main views held among these are the dvaita (duality) and advaita (non-duality), and both of them reject the claims that the universe is meaningless. I personally follow the latter philosophy which takes a panentheistic view of God, that God is the universal consciousness and He also transcends it at the same time. But maximum emphasis is laid on using one's own personal experience to realize the truth of the Self. I will wait for our more experienced members to explain further, because I still consider myself a newbie in these matters.
