    The Clash of the Yogis

Do the Hindu roots of yoga matter?

    Namaste Sahasranama,

I agree with the writer's overall point. The Hindu roots of yoga really do matter, and people need to at least acknowledge that when they practice yoga and stop denying it. To do so is just not fair, and it's disrespectful to our culture and faith.

I have no problem with Westerners/non-Hindus practicing yoga. Obviously it would be better if they become Hindus, but even just practicing yoga will help them and the world. I just ask that they acknowledge the blatantly obvious: that yoga is derived from Hinduism. It's that simple.

BTW, my respect for Deepak Chopra has dropped even lower after reading that article.

Hold on a minute, I thought. Isn’t the Dalai Lama a Tibetan Buddhist? And isn’t yoga a Hindu practice? And haven’t Buddhists and Hindus been at war over land and gods for thousands of years?

Is this true of his own thought!? Because I had no idea...but I don't think so...
