i can't just recommend books as there are so many, i can't suggest which is a good place to start. discussing with other devotee's can be good.

A very simple book on Mother Goddess entitled "Devi - The Mother-Goddess An Introduction" by Devdutt Pattanaik is an easy read and gives some very basic information that may be useful. Follow the link below. You can search the table of contents within the book, read the first few pages, etc to see if it's a good fit for you.
