    Apollo and Asclepius Biography

Asclepius is a son of Apollo who is a healer and raises the dead and had his own temple where people would come to be healed. Very intresting and what I find amazing is the serpent on the pole symbol. You see that in alot of medical kit and the amarican ambluence etc.

Actually that's not so surprising. The cult of Asclepius had a temple where the sick would come to be healed. Even after the Christianization of Europe this practice continued, except that they called it a church or monestary, instead of seeing visions of Asclepius and being healed, the sick would claim to see some Christian-friendly vision. I'm not aware of the origins of the Caducius (the traditional symbol of the medical profession), but I would guess that it comes from this.

    Hello sanjaya ^^

that reminds me of a verse by James

"Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:" (James 5:14 KJV)

I did a quick check on the serpent on the pole and I may have got confused with Hermes pole which is related to occult or somthing like that o_O
     http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caduceus

    This is  Asclepius symbol:
    http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rod_of_Asclepius

It's also intresting to note that Moses also had a serpent on a staff to heal the people who were bitten by deadly snakes.

Is there anything in Hinduism that has anything related to healing snakes or snakes on a pole?

A few highlights from a site I found on
    Asklepios:

    http://www.holyblasphemy.net/jesus-a.../pagan-christs

“All the Greeks agreed that Asklepios was a mortal healer who had perished, struck by Zeus’ lightning bolt, for presuming to raise the dead. Yet by the Classical period, he was just as unequivocally consisdered a god, though subordinate to his father Apollo, from whom his healing power was derived.” (Ancient Greek Cults, Larson, 192)
And when we say also that the Word, who is the first-birth of God, Jesus Christ, our teacher, was produced without sexual union, and that He was crucified and died, and rose again, and ascended into heaven, we propound nothing new

and different from what you believe regarding those whom you esteem sons of Jupiter… Asclepius, who, though he was a great healer, was struck by a thunderbolt, and ascended to heaven (177 Justinus, Apologia 21, 1-2)
“by whom he was brought up and taught the arts of healing and hunting. And having become a surgeon, and carried the art to a great pitch, he not only prevented some from dying, but even raised up the dead; for he received from Athena the blood that flowed from the veins of the Gorgon, and while he used the blood that flowed from her left side for the bane of mankind, he used the blood that flowed from her right side for salvation, and by that means he raised the dead. But Zeus, fearing the men might acquire the healing art from him and so come to the rescue of each other, smote him with a thunderbolt. Angry on that account, Apollo slew the Cyclops who had fashioned the thunderbolt for Zeus.  (Edelstein, 9)
When we say that He (Jesus) made well the lame and the paralytic and those who were feeble from birth and that he resurrected the dead, we shall seem to be mentioning deeds similar to and even identical with those which were said to have been performed by Asclepius. (Justin, Apology, 22,6)

And when he (the devil) brings forward Asclepius as the raiser of the dead and healer of the other diseases, may I not say that in this matter likewise he has imitated the prophecies about Christ? (Justin, Diologues, 69, 3)
another intresting discovery is that no one in the western world who is part of the abrhamic world, follows the power of healing. They go to Dr's for Medicine which would class as witch Dr or shamans who gives people pills and stuff to cure there sickness. So much for faith in Jesus huh >_>

    Hello Shian ^^

    Here's the full story:

    Numbers 21:4-9

4And they journeyed from mount Hor by the way of the Red sea, to compass the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way.

5And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loatheth this light bread.

6And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.

7Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against thee; pray unto the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people.

8And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.

9And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.

They are also well known for wisdom and Jesus himself uses the analogy of being wise as serpents.

    Matthew 10:16
Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

The serpent doesn't necessarily represent satan. Jesus compared himself to a serpent in John 3. Jesus told his followers to be as "wise" as the serpent. The serpent symbolizes eternal life and salvation.

    Re: Apollo and Asclepius Biography

I was listening to a gnostic lecture few months ago and the guy said that the serpent can be your best friend or your worst enemy. It's related to sex and kundalini. They belive the fall of man was sex and as they fell the serpent also fell (kundalini).

The bible is symbolic and not history. That's how the Gnostics view the bible. It's pretty intresting.

These two forces, one positive and ascending, and one negative and descending, are symbolized in the Bible in the Book of Numbers (the story of the Serpent of Brass). The Kundalini is “The power of life.”- from the Theosophical Glossary. The Sexual Fire that is at the base of all life.

"The ascent of the Kundalini along the spinal cord is achieved very slowly in accordance with the merits of the heart. The fires of the heart control the miraculous development of the Sacred Serpent. Devi Kundalini is not something mechanical as many suppose; the Igneous Serpent is only awakened with genuine Love between husband and wife, and it will never rise up along the medullar canal of adulterers."- Samael Aun Weor, The Mystery of the Golden Blossom
