    Arrow Dances in temple premises

In the US, people perform Dandia dance (men and women) in the temple building. In India, these kind of dances are organized outside temples (in schools or other community facilities). There is something called a Raas Garba or Lohri celebration which is held in the temple building in the US. Do these kind of dances, though they have a spiritual link, have a place in today's temple premises? What are your thoughts?

Vannakkam: I think in the west, some temples do double duty as cultural halls. Not all, but some. Often there isn't enough money (or belief in doing otherwise) to build both. The temple management may not see it as 'wrong'. So in that sense it's acceptable.

    Namaste,

In US how many Hindu people perform Dandia Raas ( Celebrating Navratri), Lohri ? Mostly very very less people, so it is easy to accommodate in temple. Can we do Dandia Raas or Lohri on street of US ? No, it is difficult to close road for hours, and there are not enough people to do Garba/Lohri on street.

Whereas in India, there are lots and lots of people who wants to do garba/raas/lohri in India, which can not accommodated in temple. Again, it is Indian cultural festival so it is easy to get permission to do garba on street. People in India understand it is garba time, so they willing do not drive their vehicle on that street.

Temperature in India is good to do garba/raas/lohri outside whereas temperature in USA is cold in the month of October/November garba/raas, navratri festival.

Hope this will make you understand.

Vannakkam: It also has to be remembered that these dances are of a regional nature. So it certainly wouldn`t affect all temples in the US, just the ones associated with that region.

What ticks me off, a bit, is the Bollywoodish atmosphere it creates. My fault, I am sure.
